Researchers in the Czech Republic have uncovered a fossilized skull of a protodog at a dig site dating back an estimated 28,500 years, giving new insight into what influenced the eventual split between dogs and wolves.
The team, which was led by University of Arkansas anthropology professor Peter Ungar, also found wolf samples from the site and compared the scratches and scrapes on the preserved teeth along with chemical isotopes left in each.
The samples came from a dig site in the countryside near the small town of Předmostí in the eastern part of the Czech Republic.

THAT IS A GOOD ONE!!!
Some Russian researchers managed to produce a dog-like fox in about 10 generations, by selecting the ones most comfortable around humans. The process also resulted in floppy ears, and other characteristic differences between dogs and wolves.

Wolves which got along with humans had a higher chance of survival. Humans who had wolf/dogs at their camp were secure against night attacks, which enhanced the humans survival.
Acquired traits are not inherited.
Diet does not alter the genome.
Diet and behavior might alter the prominence of certain genes/ alleles in the population, but, no, diet does not directly drive ‘evolution.’
There is no “evolving” without a change in Kind. Wolves to another of the canine is not a change in kind.
Protodog
The name of my next pet.

Best laugh of the morning!!
LOL Love that!!
So vegans will evolve a new species?
Neat little critters!!
Always wondered how the hell you get a shitzhu from a wolf? LOL
In the youtube at #8, also pay attention to the parallel line of aggressive, hostile foxes which were bred. This is what we've been doing for the past few generations in our "inner cities", where the most violent thugs get the most access to women and become the "baby daddies" of the next generation.
Yes and no.
Environmental factors may cause certain genes to turn on or off. Do a search on the field of "epigenetics".

Thanks a fool in paradise. Probably they liked having protodogs around because of the racket they make. /rimshot
