They can use Play Call Signs in football, that the other team can clearly see, but obviously they don't seem to be an issue.

None of the steroid crowd are in the Hall. And probably won’t be. Of course the steroid thing has some interesting side topics. Most significantly being that for most of the steroid era roids weren’t against the rules. And then they were against the rules, but with no testing and no punishment schedule, which really isn’t against the rules. But none of them are in, and none of them are getting in any time soon.

You're either thinking of somebody else, or you're not referring to the 2017 World Series. Beltran went 0-3 in three games in the 2017 Series.

Forget it. He's rolling.

That's going to change. Bonds and Clemens almost made it this year and just wait until Alex Rodriguez is eligible. East coast writers will fall all over themselves justifying his induction even though he's an admitted cheater.

The Red Sox are likely to be punished for cheating. The Yankees and Dodgers both have been suspected of it, even before the Astros issue exploded onto the media. Shall we punish them all? Shall we zero out all their wins? Or should we only punish those who fess up to breaking the rules?

Given this reaction, I don't think you'll see another team admit to cheating even though it is clear there was more than the Astros doing it.

And they should strip Jose Altuve of the MVP award. That honor should go to the runner-up, Mike Trout, earned it the old-fashioned honest way.

He belongs to the union that would fight tooth and nail for the Astros players! It’s not all on MLB, the MLBPA is a huge part of why the Astro players got no punishment and Markakis belongs to that union. Which never made sense to me, because pitchers are part of the union too and they are the ones that had their stats, $$$ and careers affected by the cheatin ‘stores.

The players union thinks it did a good job defending the cheaters. What they don't realize is that they hurt the large number of players who didn't cheat.

Plus it hurts the integrity of the game that will wind up hurting player salaries.

Typical shortsighted union nonsense.

I keep thinking...how hard would it have been for other teams...pitchers and catchers...to change the signs between innings?

So then it would only take one or two pitches after the change to figure it out again.

Everyone involved should be suspended for a year

“Those guys still get to play.”

Interesting. Seems the Markakis guy doesn’t like the Astros and how they steal signs. Funny how he pretends to have never enjoyed the activity of stealing signs in baseball. It is part of the fun. Like teasing opposing pitchers, telling tall stories, and plowing through a box of gum.

Manfred is making a “mountain out of a mole hill.” Stealing signs in baseball: that’s it. All teams do it from Little League to MLB.

Astros are innocent. And people who criticize the Astros are playing the game of “I know better than you.” Dusty Baker said, “Please. No one through bean balls at Astros.” Oh, ok, dad. Dusty has no moral authority and helped Barry Bonds score steroids.

Astros stole signs better than anyone last year. Just try to steal theirs. It is easy.

Gaylord Perry wrote a fun book about how he sneaked spit balls past the umpires for many years.

Dodgers have Betts and the Astros have Verlander. I’m ready for the World Series.

I found it interesting that these cheaters lost all four home games in the WS. Almost as if they knew something was up.

Manfred came out today and said he first asked the union if he could grant some players immunity so he could get first hand testimony to actually punish other players if it was warranted. The MLBPA insisted that he give blanket immunity to all players. So all these players that so outraged that no players were punished can take a long hard look in the mirror. What are they, helpless in the hands of their own union? It’s completely laughable.

They have to be one of the most powerful union bodies in the world, pound for pound, and they are acting like Manfred pushed for no punishment for their fellow union members.

Yes!

The honest players need to complain to their union.

No A Rod is extra screwed. He was the great clean hope that was supposed to rescue the record book from that rotten cheating Bonds. Then he got suspended. They HATE him. He’ll never get in.

In the end it’s similar to the NFL’s signal stealing problem. The league needs to change the rules. Visible signals are so 19th century, get modern baseball. Or get used to these scandals.

I fully agree. If the NFL can give QBs headsets, MLB can do the same with pitchers.

I'm noting with appall how even talk of violence against the players is being apparently accepted by MLB and encouraged by the media. Where's the MLBPA to tell other players to STFU about retaliation? Where are the owners and managers trying to tamp down threats of violence?

I'm not so much worried about the players as much as the loose screws that will come out with a gun or a bat or some other weapon thinking they have permission to take some vigilante justice. If they want to bleat about players losing their careers (which is bs), what about the player that receives a gunshot because some moron thought it was okay to attack a player thanks to reckless rhetoric being thrown around and apparently not kept in check?

In retrospect, I consider it a blessing. Could you imagine the venom from the media if Trump held a White House ceremony with these Astros? Trump dodged a political bullet here.

So then it would only take one or two pitches after the change to figure it out again.

Then you change them again. With 4 fingers, I count 24 possible combinations. With 9 innings involved, that should be enough. Even half of that would be enough. And you can add things like these:

It’s not the number of combinations. It’s the memorizing of the random combinations before the start of every inning.

True. True. It's not like we're watching Mensa members on the diamond.

I think it was Jim Rome who once said, "Look. Just remember that these are the guys who used to stuff kids in their own lockers back in school."
