..Born in Boston in 1948, Taylor was, according to his memoir, brought up devoted to progressive politics, self-improvement and the arts. His father, a doctor, moved the family to the south when he became the dean of the medical school of the University of North Carolina; his mother didnt want to go, and fought against the politics she found there. She saw the north-eastern state of Massachusetts as a lost Eden and would spend her days doing sit-ins at segregated lunch counters, on protests, and hauling her five kids to Marthas Vineyard every summer to restore our Yankee credentials. Not long after moving the family to North Carolina, Taylors father was assigned to the navy. He spent two years on an expedition to the south pole, where he held the keys to the liquor cabinet of 100 men. He went to the bottom of the world and returned with a serious drinking problem...
....He hopes this year to perform to help get out the vote ahead of the US presidential election. He met Donald Trump once, in an airport. I just thought of him as a frivolous, minor player. It drives me crazy how unworthy he is of our attention and how much of it he has. He is rooting for the Democratic candidates Deval Patrick and Elizabeth Warren both from Massachusetts, where he now lives. But at this point, Id be happy to see pretty much anyone in the bar is so low. Because the very worst person possible that you could think to be heading the thing is there. Its like the Confederacy has won the civil war.

Liberal elitism.
I guess Trump isn't "Hitler" anymore.
Lefty or not, he gave us some great tunes.
Before he wrote his pivotal album Sweet Baby James during a stint in a psychiatric hospital. Before his marriage to Carly Simon, which opened up his personal life including his long battle with heroin addiction
Such a deep philosophical intellect that we should all listen to
“I guess Trump isn’t “Hitler” anymore.”
Now he’s Jeff Davis.
Team Antifa says that’s the same thing.
Christopher Guest performing the James Taylor parody, “Highway Toes,” on NatLamp’s Lemmings.

A former heroin addict troubadour is always my first go-to for intelligent political thought.
Before mass media, actors and pop musicians were seen as entertainers only, not serious people. Mass media has given them a mass audience and huge money, and suddenly they are geniuses to morons.
But what the heck, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom back in 2015 by Obama so he must be a great person............/barf
Probably applied to most of the musicians we listened to back then.
lol. Brutal.
He met Donald Trump once, in an airport. I just thought of him as a frivolous, minor player. It drives me crazy how unworthy he is of our attention and how much of it he has...
I Met Donald Trump in Rockefeller Plaza. I worked there and he was visiting.
I was excited and even though a bunch of people were coming up to him, he shoo every hand including mind. He said something like “How are you?” or “Good to meet you.”
I was a nobody lol And he seemed like a great guy.
Only other star that was nice was Nicholas Cage.
This singer is a POS
Remember when Kerry hauled him over to Paris? Cringe.
Hurry up and die James.
What a contemptible person.
He gave You some great tunes.
The GnR singer is bashing Trump too.
I think he’s a jerkoff now.
I’m not going to stop listening to his music but any chance of paying for a concert ticket went out the window.
I’m guessing that for most of us who were teens in the ‘60s on, the bands and singers we liked were/are leftists.
It is what it is.
Of course there’s exceptions. Brett Micheals of Poison, Ted Nugent..and I’m sure others.
Was watching a video on youtube of Carly Simon playing live. The camera spends quite a few moments on Taylor and Art Garfunkle talking off stage while she is singing. Perhaps at that time those two were the bigger stars.
He sure can pick 'em. Patrick's already out, and Warren's currently trying to figure out the best way to bow out and keep the money she raised.
btw, as a side note...for Nascar fans..HORRIBLE crash at the finish. Not sure Ryan Newman is going to live through it.
The Winner is getting a lot of backlash for his celebration.
