There are currently 69,036 confirmed cases worldwide, including 1,666 fatalities.
Thanks again, BTW.
If nothing else the breakdown helps reveal “oddities” in the Chinese data, over time.
I agree...
Take care.
Indeed!
But at least an arrow in the gut is no longer a significant risk in this neck of the woods.
:-)
The Stand was mostly a supernatural story wasn’t it?. After 6 days 96% of the world? nah. If everyone in Vermont were alive then why weren’t Canadians or Icelanders even?
Have you read/seen Crichton’s Andromeda Strain? Something that wipes out a town, triggering CDC response, what-dun-it, mutations, etc. The ending was a scary. It emphasized science and left you wanting more scary science.
Re: China - What did they do right? They sure didn’t want their nation quarantined and they’re still badmouthing us over our flight embargo. Yet from Jan 23 to now, we’ve gone from 800 to 70,000 cases. By Jan 23, there were 40 cases outside of China. By Jan 27 the virus still didn’t have a name, people were still on the streets of Wuhan, and there were even more cases outside China. That’s not control.
They censored news and medical staff paid the price, reduced to begging for masks and using rain slickers for protection as one after the other got infected and fell off the front line, no backup in sight. Arresting reporters instead of utilizing them. Arresting parents while children were abandoned at home, noone to care for them. Nobody checking the inner city elderly and infirm. Corporal punishment handed out liberally upon people who just didn’t understand what was happening.
From lack of awareness and information, a thousand plus people have died, an epidemic has spread to multiple countries, the world has spent billions and been stripped of potentially critical medical supplies. While the CCP announces publicly they’re tossing a whole 1 billion into the pot and tries to monopolize a year’s mask production from India behind the world’s back. How is any of that smart?
The unforced error of WinnieThePooh admitting he was ‘issuing orders’ as early as Jan 7 was damning. Sure the disease would have raged, but it could have been less of a worldwide threat if China hadn’t thrown away a month of the world’s time and thrown their people to the winds instead of asking for help. China’s not getting any admiration or brownie points from me.
I’m speaking about in medical emergencies - same thing that keeps the people in Wuhan in their houses will keep most of us in ours. How many people in America aware of the virus from hell are now washing their hands or watching their personal space - more than before. Sold out shelves tell that story. Everyday times, people are jerks so yah, I have several - if they can make it up the hill without waking the attack goose.
that’s the one! thanks, PIF!
looks like one medic has a face shield but no mask, and the other has mask and shades. Neither have hoods. Are they transporting infected and noninfected or only those testing clear?
at your link - a story of two arrested a third sought in Hong Kong for stealing 600 rolls of TP
We’re bringing the nonsick home to start a new 24 day quarantine—as we should.
*14 day
A weird update. An hour later, I heard kitty’s meow and looked up to see him walking in the door pretty as you please. It took a minute of staring at him with jaws on the floor before we gasped, “WHAT?!?” Turns out it was an unknown “twin” of ours who belonged to a neighbor that we’d buried and prayed over.
Go read Pet Semetery. That is, if you are not fond of sleeping. Lol.
No one is saying yet where those 14? who are infected have landed.
Yeah. That’s what we said. Geez, freaky adrenaline rush.
They never let the details out.
Most details Ive heard, so far, was where the infected guy in Hawaii stayed.
This was posted on ZH this morning about the Chinese markets.
If the Chinese feel their economy is going to be shocked by this situation, what would be their options for keeping China from crashing while the rest of the world prospered?
With all the debt in China there has been declarations by the government to allow delays in payments until the restrictions are lifted. Thats fine for internal moneybut what about international money that is not going to be paid for a few months?
I guess you can push money (liquidity) into the market and eliminate short selling. But this is inflationary.
Would China pull the plug on their markets and let them crashtaking the international markets with them? It would certainly level the playing field and it would take the heat off from making Phase I goals.
Either the Chinese are lying about the outbreakat least the severity of it. Or their markets are lying. It cannot be both.
A cornered animal will lash out. I originally thought they might take a military shot across someones bow. But their military is otherwise occupied at this moment.
The ONLY way they could take a shot at the west is to blow up the economy )which is already blown). I bet short interest has been increasing a lot over the past eight weekswith a lot of Far East buyers.
Just thinking out loud. I am usually wrong about financial stuff.
IIRC, one woman in Africa nursed her Ebola infected family and wore garbage bags and used lots of clorox.
Good idea on the crock pot.
Some times invention is the mother of necessity or something.
