MLBs plan would add two new wild card teams to the American and National League, boosting the total amount of playoff teams from 10 to 14, per ESPN. Mirroring the NFL, the AL and NL top seed would get a first-round bye, while remaining division winners and wild cards face each other in a best-of-three.
More radical is a proposed system that would allow for division winners to pick their opponents, a selection that would be televised live on the final night of regular-season games.

They just can't stop screwing up a good thing.
juice boxes and participation ribbons for all the players!!
Trying their best to screw it up.
Are you crying?.....
Are you crying?.....
There’s no crying in baseball!...................
Since Congress thinks they have the authority to legislate NCAA playoff berths, are we gonna have to run this by them?
It seems like they are devaluing the first 162 games.
EVERYBODY GETS PARTICIPATION TROPHIES!!!
This isn’t even good money-making. People don’t get to know the contenders, so they kill the narrative, WITHOUT adding to the number of fans, since you can only watch one game at a time.
If they’re going to keep three divisions, go back to one wild-card team, 8 total playoff teams. (One-game playoffs were also a stupid idea.)
Sounds horrible, like it is from a satire site. Every time they make changes to bring in more viewers, they just ruin it for the fans they already have.
Meh. Baseball left me at the 1994 World Series (there wasn’t one).
Then came the steroid heroes.
I used to be a huge fan.
Sounds like MLB is moving towards having a second season.
Everyone gets to play !
If they did this and expand the playoffs that much more, I hope they cut back from 162 games in the regular season.
If they keep 162 games and expanded playoffs, the world series will spill over into November and bad baseball weather every year.
Game 7 would have gone into November in one of the last couple years already.
Wished that's they way the real world worked.
Me too. But I left when Curt Flood won his lawsuit.
I agree with you.
They had a great game and should have just left it alone.
And why?
To squeeze a few more dollars from the stpoopid fans?
Leave baseball the hell alone or lose your fans.
I never forgave MLB for cutting the 1994 season short when Tony Gwynn had a credible chance to hit .400, and when a fading Don Mattingly may have had his best chance ever at a World Series ring.
