Dywane Wade is opening up about his 12-year-old child in a candid new interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The basketball star’s kid was born as a boy named Zion, but Dwyane confirmed that the child now identifies as she/her and has asked to be called Zaya. Dwyane raises Zaya, who he has sole custody of after his split from Zaya’s mom, Siohvaughn Funches, with his wife, Gabrielle Union, and explained how he and the actress have done everything they can to support the 12-year-old after she came out as transgender.
“We are proud parents of a child in the LGBTQ+ community,” Dwyane said. “We’re proud allies, as well. We take our roles and responsibility as parents very seriously. So when our child comes home with a question or an issue or anything, it’s our job as parents to listen and give them the best information and feedback that we can. That doesn’t change because sexuality is involved with it. Once Zaya, our 12-year-old, came home — originally ZIon, born as a boy — and said, ‘Hey, I want to talk to you guys, I think going forward I’m ready to live my truth. I want to be referenced as she and her. I would love for you guys to call me Zaya.’ Internally, it’s now our job to go out and get information.”
Dwyane said that he and Gabrielle reached out to the case of Pose to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community. “We just want to figure out as much information as we can to give our child the best opportunity to be her best self.” Dwyane also revealed that he has encouraged Zaya to use her voice to be a leader within her community in the years to come. “I looked at her and said, ‘You’re a leader. And this is your opportunity to allow you to be a voice.’ Right now, it’s through us, since she’s 12 years old, but eventually, it will be through her.” Dwyane and Gabrielle have proudly attended Pride events with Zaya in the past.

Maybe it would help if you stopped humping everything with a pulse.
I wonder if having such a horrendous male role model turned the kid off and he decided being a woman would be preferable. Not actually gay or anything, just rejecting the male behavior he sees in his father, and that being a woman would be better/easier/less shameful?

The emphasis and re-emphasis on the father’s and stepmother’s “pride” suggests that the two of them felt they needed more positive attention from their peers.
It’s like human sacrifice.
Too bad, I actually think “Dywane” is more sonorous. Sort of Old English sounding, like Gawain.
All this belief in “gender fluidity” cannot escape one fact - chromosome count. In literally every cell of a human being’s body, “male” (a gender) is identified as having a chromosome pair, XY, while “female” (another gender) is identified as having a different chromosome pair, XX. Immutable and not subject to opinion or any form of sophistry used to “explain” transgender changes can take place.
You are conceived, gestated, born and grow to maturity and into old age, but the chromosome differences NEVER CHANGE. XX is forever XX, and XY is forever XY.
Oh, cosmetic changes and practiced development of habitual behavior can change the outward appearance, and even close inspection at a superficial nature may not detect the underlying fact of the predetermined sex. But the biology remains the same, and not even the infusion of extreme amounts of hormones shall ever alter even one cell of the body with which you came into the world.
Except maybe make that cell cancerous or something.
The doctors, councilors and psycho industrials playing into this crap should be arrested and tried for reckless endangerment, psychological, and when appropriate physical, mutilation of a child, contributing harm to a child, etc and son on.

Especially if you’re trying to pronounce “Dwyane.” Is it Dwy-anne, or was his mother trying for “Dwayne”?
It’s an ignorant spelling of “Dwayne,” I’m fairly certain.
Education really went to pieces when they stopped teaching phonics.
Thank God there wasn’t an LGBT community my mother could have run to when I was a kid! Though I have no doubt she wouldn’t have. I was sort of a tomboy until the neighbor boys saw I was developing physical signs otherwise....came over to my yard, picked me up and threw me into the neighbors pool one day so my blouse would reveal the goods! Things do change if given the freedom to grow and develop naturally.
Leave kids alone! They find the right way if you just let growing up be just that!
I remember in the early-mid 90s when I was completely “WTF” when I saw boys in my HS with a single earring. Like “are we reeeeeeally doing this?” level.
Now I have to wonder how many guys there are showing up in dresses.
We sure are and why do these parents enable these kids to be something they were not born to be?
I have never heard of this guy and maybe that’s a good thing.
Hollywood seems to set the stage for enabling their kids to transition into something they are not.
