The age of celebrity is dead
https://spectator.us ^ | February 10, 2020 | Freddy Gray

Come friendly bombs and fall on Hollywood, it isn’t fit for doing good. Another year, another dreadful Oscars, another round of moral lectures from the beautiful people. It’s all so tiresome. The only reason most people pay attention to these irritating award ceremonies is precisely so that they can be irritated.

So there was a vegan theme at this year’s Academy Awards. So the show had no host. So Brad Pitt is angry about impeachment. So someone said ‘workers of the world unite’. So Joaquin Phoenix is mad (in all senses) about what mankind is doing to the animal kingdom. So Natalie Portman, in what she called ‘my subtle way’, had the names of the women directors who weren’t nominated for awards sewn into her dress.

"Actors end up almost trolling the public, and the public trolls them back on social media."

This is something I liked from the article. Actors think their words matter. Then social media responds and the actors get scorched!

They believe in ridiculing and insulting the folks that they want to come see the movies they make. And then wonder why folks don’t like them or that some of their movies fail to make a decent return. I render my opinion of their opinions of me and my beliefs by abstaining from attending their movies.

At some unconscious level, these actors must know that they don’t really know anything about politics or the real world. They can’t admit this to themselves, of course, human nature being what it is, so they double down. They convince themselves that any angry reaction to their moralizing is an indication that they have dared to speak truth. How brave they are!

Yep!

Actors think their words matter

Actually, actors think that they matter. They are the ones to change the world talking about the enviornment, while being hypocraps flying in private jets and riding around in hummer stretch limos. Honestly its become an awards ceremony for people that don’t know how to act. They really are being themselves in the roles, batcrap loons.

Just call them “talking props.”

They love that. Kind of puts them in a more accurate perspective.

I like what Robert Heinlein said about actors.

“[T]here seems to have been an actual decline in rational thinking. The United States had become a place where entertainers and professional athletes were mistaken for people of importance.

They were idolized and treated as leaders; their opinions were sought on everything and they took themselves just as seriously—after all, if an athlete is paid a million or more a year, he knows he is important ... so his opinions of foreign affairs and domestic policies must be important, too, even though he proves himself to be ignorant and sub-literate every time he opens his mouth.”-Robert Henlein

As I said on FB about Brad Pitt winning an Oscar, and his speech...

“An actor, the Greek word hypokrites,. An entertainer. A Wamba the Fool and Jockomo the Clown rolled into one. Now he thinks he can tell the rest of us how to live our lives.
Dance, boy, dance! That is all you are good for is pretending to be someone else.”

>>So Natalie Portman, in what she called ‘my subtle way’, had the names of the women directors who weren’t nominated for awards sewn into her dress.<<

And has ZERO wahmen directors in her production company’s 7+ productions.

The only wahmen in portman’s movies is her. All the rest — guys.

Starts with an “H,” ends with an “ypocrite.”

Yeah, for the most part this is true, but I think there are still worthy examples of celebrity.

How about Keanu Reaves? Everybody loves him, he doesn’t try to make a jerk out of himself.

“thanks to social media, everybody is famous to at least 15 people. Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook mean we don’t have to ogle stars anymore; we are too busy ogling ourselves”

There are so few people that are actually interesting anymore. Actors used to be interesting because of what you didn’t know about them. A little mystique went a long way. Now they’re just Rat politicians who are also in politically correct movies. And nobody cares. So they adulate themselves.

I don’t watch the awards programs because no matter how rotten a lot of their “art” is, the awards shows are always worse. One time while channel surfing I caught a glimpse of some music award show and saw a performance that reminded me of the night I made a wrong turn and wound up in some dystopian nightmare on the west side of Chicago. It looked like an abandoned industrial area with people all over the streets doing who knows what. I still don’t know exactly where I was, but I got out of there fast. Another reason I skip the shows is I have found that while I might have enjoyed a particular performance, I don’t care much for the performer’s personalty in real life or their antics on the awards show.
