Some of the World Health Organizations recent Twitter posts may seem like obvious statements, but amid rapidly spreading misinformation about the new coronavirus, thousands if not millions of people are being exposed to false health warnings and quack treatment methods.
There is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from 2019-nCoV, the WHO posted on its official Twitter account last week, along with the hashtag #KnowtheFacts.
Fake alerts and posts circulating on social media, often claiming to be from the WHO or a national health ministry, include bogus suggestions that garlic, sesame oil and vitamin C can kill this particular strand of coronavirus, first identified in the city of Wuhan, China in late December.
One alert widely shared in the United Arab Emirates via popular messaging service Whatsapp, falsely attributed to the countrys Ministry of Health, warns that the virus will invade your throat within 10 minutes if you dont drink enough water. None of these are true, and there is as yet no cure for the deadly virus thats now killed more than 400 people and sickened more than 20,000.
The WHO, which has declared the illness a global health emergency, is warning against misinformation and the harm it can cause.
In Malaysia, five people have been arrested for spreading fake news about the virus one post shared on Facebook, falsely claiming to be from a government department, showed a fake picture of the virus and read in Malay: This is an image of one of many Allahs armies sent to attack China in the form of coronavirus. This is the actual image of the virus as seen under a very powerful microscope. The post was shared more than 700 times.

What might help is to have slightly higher than normal levels of serum (blood) vitamin D. It is not a true vitamin, it is more a hormone. And it has about six strong antiviral effects, including:
1) It opens immune pathways, to help your immune system recognize and attack novel pathogens.
2) It is also a natural ACE inhibitor, which prevents your immune system from overreacting to novel pathogens.
3) It has a breakdown product that erodes viral coats in the blood. When their protective coat is sufficiently eroded, the virus becomes inactive.
With exposure to sunlight, human skin will produce vitamin D. However, it will take a few days before it makes it to the blood. This is why supplements are good.
The “do not survive long” clause could use more specificity. How about packing material made in China and used IN the boxes?
Don’t forget the elderberry stuff.
I am a firm believer in garlic’s antiviral properties. I’ve chewed raw garlic when I’ve felt a cold coming on and averted the cold. I’ve chewed raw garlic after already coming down with a cold or flu, and then made a rapid recovery. As you say, the mechanism is poorly understood. Is it the high sulfur content of garlic? Does some compound penetrate viruses’ protein coating? I don’t know, but the proof of (garlic) pudding is in the eating, and it works for me.
I love stories of humanity like that.
I can remember my mother used to rub raw garlic on us when we had the mumps. Did it work...I have no idea. All I remember is having the mumps and her doing this to us
I read vit d increases testosterone in men and women.
“No, garlic wont protect you from coronavirus: WHO pushes back on rampant misinformation”
Heck no it won’t. Everybody (especially folks from Romania) know garlic is only good for repelling vampires.
I used to chop garlic cloves into slivers and then stuff them into little gel capsules that I had ordered just for that purpose. When our two daughters seemed to be coming down with a cold or virus, they had the pleasure of taking several capsules a day for a few days in a row.
I can’t prove it helped but they definitely liked it better than having to chew the garlic.
Peach
Well, if you eat enough garlic it may keep people away.
You need to infuse the garlic with colloidal silver, then consume it with a ketogenic meal while dancing naked under the full moon and injecting yourself with 1000l of Vitamin C. 100% coronavirus protection.
fixed it. :)
How much garlic? I love raw onions and garlic so I dont think Id have much trouble munching on them.
When sick, I chew one clove approximately every 4-6 hours.
Dont knock it til you try it.
You can drink elderberry syrup after first symptoms of viral infections and take it 4 times a day and it’s amazing at keeping viruses at bay.
