Some of the World Health Organizations recent Twitter posts may seem like obvious statements, but amid rapidly spreading misinformation about the new coronavirus, thousands if not millions of people are being exposed to false health warnings and quack treatment methods.
There is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from 2019-nCoV, the WHO posted on its official Twitter account last week, along with the hashtag #KnowtheFacts.
Fake alerts and posts circulating on social media, often claiming to be from the WHO or a national health ministry, include bogus suggestions that garlic, sesame oil and vitamin C can kill this particular strand of coronavirus, first identified in the city of Wuhan, China in late December.
One alert widely shared in the United Arab Emirates via popular messaging service Whatsapp, falsely attributed to the countrys Ministry of Health, warns that the virus will invade your throat within 10 minutes if you dont drink enough water. None of these are true, and there is as yet no cure for the deadly virus thats now killed more than 400 people and sickened more than 20,000.
The WHO, which has declared the illness a global health emergency, is warning against misinformation and the harm it can cause.
In Malaysia, five people have been arrested for spreading fake news about the virus one post shared on Facebook, falsely claiming to be from a government department, showed a fake picture of the virus and read in Malay: This is an image of one of many Allahs armies sent to attack China in the form of coronavirus. This is the actual image of the virus as seen under a very powerful microscope. The post was shared more than 700 times.

Q: Is it safe to receive a letter or a package from China?
A: Yes, it is safe. People receiving packages from China are not at risk of contracting #2019nCoV. From previous analysis, we know coronaviruses do not survive long on objects, such as letters or packages.
Well, if you eat enough garlic it may keep people away. Hence, an unintended effect?
True:)
WHO are you? Who who who who?
The UN’s WHO is rampant misinformation.
You drank 'em bot'up.
Put the lime in the coconut
and you'll feel better.
So says Nilsson Schmilsson
...and neither will endless Coronavirus threads.
Wear it around your neck.
You need to infuse the garlic with colloidal silver, then consume it with a ketogenic meal while dancing naked under the full moon and injecting yourself with 1000mg of Vitamin C. 100% coronavirus protection.
Sure, I believe the WHO.
Raw garlic actually does have antiviral properties but they’re poorly understood so relying upon that to protect yourself from a viral infection is likely foolish. However, garlic is a well-known antimicrobial and thus is effective with bacterial infection, so eating raw garlic is likely helpful with secondary bacterial infections related to an initial viral infection. I wouldn’t discount the use of raw garlic as a result, if nothing else is available or as an easily available means of minimizing the effects of infection. You will pay for chewing raw garlic cloves though, it’ll bring tears to your eyes and burn to the point that you feel like banging your head on the counter, lol. Be aware of that.
If this virus only infect the “gay” community then their would be both a cure and vaccine by now.
My thoughts exactly.
Not to mention repelling vampires and werewolves. :-)
I LOVE garlic, BTW. :-)
Yes, garlic does protect you. You eat a clove raw and see how people stay away from you.
LIARS, Vitamin C, CoQ10, NAC, all these things help, and especially help to regulate inflammation and help control and mitigate a cytokine storm
Who doesn’t? :)
FWIW - An older relative of mine was a POW of the Japanese in WWII. They sent him to Manchuria (near present day Shenyang) to work in a coal mine. Of course, they were constantly cold and hungry. The Chinese laborers there, who would probably be killed if caught, would secretly drop the POWs cloves of garlic.
He credits that with keeping him alive, and he always had admiration for Chinese afterwards.
