Trump administration won't let New Yorkers apply for or renew Global Entry

The Trump Administration announced late Wednesday that New York State residents will no longer be allowed to apply for or renew Global Entry, the fast-track program that lets verified travelers use automated kiosks when returning from overseas.

New York's new "Green Light Law," which took effect in December, allows people without legal immigration status to apply for drivers' licenses in New York. As part of the law, New York blocked access to DMV databases to federal agencies that enforce immigration laws.

Although the law was passed in June, federal officials were reportedly caught off-guard when it took effect in December.

Acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) director Chad Wolf said in a letter Wednesday, which was posted online by Fox News, that New York residents would no longer be allowed to register or re-apply for trusted traveler programs — or TTPs — "due to the Act's negative impact on Department operations."

We have New York Democrats to thank for this, not DHS.

New York.....figures they wanted fast track. They’re importing foreigners to take the place of the grand exodus out of their state.

New York is soooooo screwed up....and now the Dems control the legislature. Criminals are released...no matter the charge. Ganmbling is rampant. Marijuana will soon be right by the Parsley in your local supermarket.

The good news....no plastic bags in the super market.

California and now New York are in rebellion against the federal government and US immigration laws.
There should be more consequences and heavier penalties exacted.

DHS needs to de-certify NY licenses under the Real ID Act as well. They should no longer be acceptable ID for any federal purpose (like boarding an aircraft).

"They should no longer be acceptable ID for any federal purpose (like boarding an aircraft)."

Or valid in other states. How many people have been killed by illegal drunks, which is socially acceptable in Latin America?

Apply to ALL sanctuary city and states. Why just these assholes in New Yawk? CA has more of them.

Never needed it and I go to Vancouver for I work for a major studio which films there, every 2 months and line up like any schmuck. It’s called “going to the airport 3 hours prior”..

NY State Green Light Law specifically PROHIBITS NY State DOT from cooperating or offering info to Federal immigration officials.

why would any CBP manager, who must take responsibility for confirming a person’s “trusted traveler” status, ever agree to allow that for someone from NY - if they are barred by NY State DOT from getting any info about that person?

Its plain common sense.

Hubby has an old friend, 71 years old, who has finally given up the “California Dream” after 43 years. He’s moving here to Arizona to live closer to his son, who also bailed a few years ago.

I have a NEXUS card ...which includes the same benefits of Global Entry plus one or two more.In order to get one you must pass a background check by the US Government and the Canadian Government.Among the things they check are DMV records...looking for the various black marks that such records can include.

If the DHS can't fully check a person's background why should they assume that that person is entirely trustworthy?

I wish him luck. I’ve had many friends abandon California and more are planning to.

I lived in Phoenix twice when I was a boy. It’s a bit too hot for my liking.

This is exactly what Democrats do to “free” states when pushing their anti-gun laws on the national level. It doesn’t affect the progressive states....Just the free ones.

You would think that the NY state legislature would understand when they word a new law this way, that inevitably CBP wouldn’t be able to verify info for anyone, including law abiding citizens. Then when the inevitable happens, they can get the compliant media to blame Trump for their intentional flawed wording.

That is coming next, just because NY says they are licensed does not or will not soon allow for that license to be recognized by other states. So if Pedro decides to drive to Florida with the familia and gets pulled over in another state, he is an unlicensed driver by the laws of that state

Need lot’s more popcorn!
