61 coronavirus cases confirmed on cruise ship off Japan
N Y Post ^ | February 7, 2020 | Amanda Woods

Japanese Health Minister Katsunobu Kato announced at a news conference Friday that another 41 people on the liner, operated by Carnival Japan Inc., had tested positive for the deadly illness, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 61. All of them have been removed from the ship and taken to local hospitals. Eleven of those passengers are Americans, the Washington Post reported.

Meanwhile, the remaining passengers — including American honeymooners Milena Basso and Gaetano Cerullo — are stranded on the ship, only allowed out on the deck briefly for air.

“We just don’t feel like we’re safe,” Basso added. “We should be quarantined in a sanitary environment that’s safe, not on a cruise ship that’s already infected.”

Passengers have been instructed not to leave their rooms, and officials have only given “vague” updates, according to Basso.

Seen on ZeroHedge...

wuhan flu is like rabies. with rabies you start foaming at the mouth and try to bite people. with wuhan flu you immediately get the urge to go on a cruise.

This was reported yesterday. They tested 273 people out of about 4,000 (obviously the ones they were most worried about). 212 came back negative, but these 61 came back positive (and they were removed). At this point, the ship has another 10 to 11 days of lockdown (I assume meaning that they’ll be released if no more infections).

We’ll see how it goes, but cruise companies are quickly finding that their boats are no longer welcome around Asia, as Japan’s case, though it seems small, is still huge strain on them...so why take anymore boats?

I have heard that this virus only affects Asians. At first, I said that that isn’t possible, but then I heard it from another source. I can’t Google it because you get pages full of “People are being racist towards Asians”, etc. Has anyone else heard this?

Have not heard that from any credible source.

That was based on a study of 8 samples a few weeks ago. Many have concluded that is too small of a sample to make those conclusions.

Yes, I have read this a couple of times. There is apparently some paper from an Asian medical journal that argues this, basing the analysis on something to do with SARS being like that. Apparently especially male Asians have some receptor in their lungs which is different than Caucasians and other races, and means they get lung infections/diseases more easily.

I am real skeptical of this, although I have to say it is well known that northeast Asians do have other physical characteristics like that. For example, Koreans especially are known for not having body odor. If you are a Caucasian in Korea, you quickly find that out because when you go to the store in Korea, you have a hard time finding deodorant because people don’t need it there.

Yeah. There is a report that asians, esp men have 5 times as many receptors in some lung cells that the virus targets.

” The result indicates that the ACE2 virus receptor expression is concentrated in a small population of type II alveolar cells (AT2). Surprisingly, we found that this population of ACE2-expressing AT2 also highly expressed many other genes that positively regulating viral reproduction and transmission. A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung.”

PRELIMINARY study. But interesting finding.

Why would you be skeptical? There are all kinds of biological differences in races.

The “race is a social construct” argument is a joke.

Thank you for your replies. You really can’t ask this question to many places as you will be subject to the PC police and called a racist. :)

This is interesting. IF Asians are the only ones who get it, do you think the authorities should relay that? What a mess.

The medical staff of that cruise ship took everyone’s temperature initially WITHOUT A DISPOSABLE TIP.

They spread the virus possibly to everyone on board...

How long does coronavirus live in the air or on surfaces? Is it in the air ducts or air conditioner?

I’d love to know...we’re still chasing a ghost, it seems.

Me and the wife have discussed taking a vacation cruise, but honestly, the risks seem awful high. They are floating petri dishes.

No, other can get its also but out of 4 people coming back from China to a German auto company the 2 non-Asian did not get it as badly and one not at all...just felt like a cold for a couple of days.

There is a theory that the Chinese had made a SAARs vaccine and that is part of the problem with the Chinese cases. That is just one of many, many theories out there and this is just the beginning of watching this virus in other races. Still too early as mostly Asians have gotten this.

Very, since the Chinese are already blaming the Americans and claiming it is bio warfare. They could say see it was designed to harm them.

But in reality, they themselves have been playing with things that could do this. Some to harm others for warfare purposes and some they might have been trying to protect themselves and it went bad. There are all kinds of theories of how this started....none naturally.
