I have heard that this virus only affects Asians. At first, I said that that isn’t possible, but then I heard it from another source. I can’t Google it because you get pages full of “People are being racist towards Asians”, etc. Has anyone else heard this?

Have not heard that from any credible source.

That was based on a study of 8 samples a few weeks ago. Many have concluded that is too small of a sample to make those conclusions.

Yes, I have read this a couple of times. There is apparently some paper from an Asian medical journal that argues this, basing the analysis on something to do with SARS being like that. Apparently especially male Asians have some receptor in their lungs which is different than Caucasians and other races, and means they get lung infections/diseases more easily.

I am real skeptical of this, although I have to say it is well known that northeast Asians do have other physical characteristics like that. For example, Koreans especially are known for not having body odor. If you are a Caucasian in Korea, you quickly find that out because when you go to the store in Korea, you have a hard time finding deodorant because people don’t need it there.

Yeah. There is a report that asians, esp men have 5 times as many receptors in some lung cells that the virus targets.

” The result indicates that the ACE2 virus receptor expression is concentrated in a small population of type II alveolar cells (AT2). Surprisingly, we found that this population of ACE2-expressing AT2 also highly expressed many other genes that positively regulating viral reproduction and transmission. A comparison between eight individual samples demonstrated that the Asian male one has an extremely large number of ACE2-expressing cells in the lung.”

PRELIMINARY study. But interesting finding.

No, other can get its also but out of 4 people coming back from China to a German auto company the 2 non-Asian did not get it as badly and one not at all...just felt like a cold for a couple of days.

There is a theory that the Chinese had made a SAARs vaccine and that is part of the problem with the Chinese cases. That is just one of many, many theories out there and this is just the beginning of watching this virus in other races. Still too early as mostly Asians have gotten this.
