This year, Super Bowl LIV took place in Miami. It was, therefore, appropriate for the halftime show to have a Latin beat, with Shakira and J-Lo as the headliners. Still, some people asked, "Did the show have to be so vulgar?"
On the pro side, Shakira and J-Lo are both superb entertainers, the songs they used were fun and energetic, the Latin beat rocked, and the backup performers were excellent. All in all, the show was a polished 14 minutes of top-flight Latin-infused pop music and dancing.
Any people who attended a stadium show just to see these two performers, both of whom sing and dance extremely well, would have felt they got their money's worth. Bravo!
But on the con side, the show was vulgar, and that's not just because, in keeping with all Latin dancing going back to the early 20th century, there was a lot of hip-shaking. Few people are going to get bent out of shape by that traditional Latin American dance dynamic.
While shaking hips are now old hat, there were still a lot of vulgar moves and costumes in the halftime show:
* Shakira implied bondage by wrapping a rope around herself.
* Bevies of athletic young women thrusting their pelvises at the TV cameras.
* Shakira writhed on the floor as a rapper bent over her body.
* Shakira ululated while flicking her tongue at the camera.
* J-Lo and her back-up dancers wore leather bondage outfits reminiscent of the leather gear fetish gay men wore in San Francisco's Folsom District in the 1970s and 1980s.
* J-Lo wagging her half-naked butt at the camera. J-Lo and her male backup dancers kept grabbing their own crotches.
* J-Lo did some pole-dancing in a minimalist costume that barely covered her lady parts,

I only paid half attention. And when I did, I said to my wife “hey look some chick is shoving her bagina at the camera. Classy”
Would have preferred marching bands and the Punt,Pass,and Kick competition
I never watch the idiotic halftime show.
They should just let a high school band play and save the money.
Last night, I took a shower during halftime and missed the vulgar display.

It is my understanding it was choreographed by billionaire and oppressed Jay-Z. He and his wife were also protesting the discrimination and injustice the billionaires have felt in hateful racist America by not standing for the national anthem.
I enjoyed it in a most prurient fashion. Clearly this was not family fare.
It reminded me of the Philistine orgy scene at the end of the opera “Samson and Delilah.” I was waiting for blinded Samson to pull down the columns of the temple and kill them all.
Same here. Was somewhere that had it on but used halftime to take a bathroom break, grab some snacks. etc. Was not really paying close attention. So was kind of shocked when so many people I knew began blasting it.

I haven't read it (yet), but I hear that Grant's autobiography is a pretty good read. Apparently he had a knack for writing, too.
Some people claim its America’s finest autobiography.
There’s a sad story behind it. Grant wrote while dying of throat cancer in order to set his wife up financially. It was necessary because his son & some Wall Street associates lost all the family’s money. I think I read he finished it and died almost like the next day.
I received a Bufflao Wild Wings gift card and spent it all watching the game sitting at the bar. The joint was packed and the single young lady that was tending bar and preparing drinks for waitresses for those seated never stopped — she did it all including washing glasses (in a bar dishwasher), taking snack orders from those at the bar, racing back from the waitress station to the multitude of draft beer taps, mixing drinks, etc.
She was barely 5 feet high and I was amazed at her stamina and attitude (friendly when you could get her attention). I told her to confirm the amount on the card then gave her the complete gift card and a nice cash tip on top of that. She smiled and gave me a thumbs up. Quite a contrast to those in skimpy costumes gyrating on stage making a spectacle of themselves.
I left halfway through the 4th quarter thinking SanFran had won and wanting to avoid the drunks on the road. Didn’t have far to travel and saw a traffic stop right away. Let the dog in and turned on the TV when I got home and saw Mahones score three TD’s in the final seven minutes. Kinda sorry I missed the celebration at the bar as Mahones went to school in nearby Lubbock.
Never watched the halftime show; spent the time trying to find a FR live Super Bowl thread.
The entire show tired him out though.
Due to his lack of energy.
I guess now we have to let all the Hispanics out of their cages?

I watched a Fraiser rerun at halftime.
Sad when kids watch that and come away thinking it is normal behavior...no wonder...they become what they are taught.
The music sucked and the lewdness was ‘in your face’. I just didn’t find much to like about it the South Beach nightclub act as it was.
What message as J.Lopez sending to her daughter while pretending to be a stripper on a pole? Or by routinely grabbing her crotch? Slutty performance from someone who could have just offered up some of her better selling music. Instead, it was just an incoherent assembly of her acting slutty.
Shakira wasn’t quite as bad, and she is a talented artist. I would have been happier with it being simply Shakira, and the performance being a little less uncomfortable around my young kids.
Pre-paid strip tease show - no dollars in the garter because they already got paid ahead of time.
This is the stuff of sleazy bachelor parties and “gentleman’s club” bars near every airport. Doesn’t belong on the halftime show of a major sporting event.
Okay, I’ll preface this by saying that I didn’t watch the SB. I did see some “highlights” of the halftime show on my local news this morning and figured what they were showing me was the tamer portions of the performance and even at that, I “ughhed”. All that being said, in this new age of wokeness and metooism, especially with the NFL wading into said wokeness ala the broke down, watered down Superfly, I would have thought Kathy Bates reading feminist poetry would have been more appropriate.
