And now for something a bit slower and calmer. Film enthusiasts may recognize this as the main theme to Stanley Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon" (1975).

“Barry Lyndon”—sounds like a movie about the 1964 presidential election.
Excellent movie, underrated imho.
Excellent use of a NASA low-light moon lens for some of the candlelight scenes.
One of my 5 favorite films.
I agree. It was not a huge commercial success when first released despite strong reviews. But it has become something of a cult classic. Some have suggested that film is really just a string of classic 18th century paintings strung together since Kubrick based so many of the scenes on period paintings and portraiture. The movie is a personal favorite.

Saw the movie Barry Lyndon many years ago, but didn't recall that this music was in it.
One of the greatest movies ever made!
The piece is both powerful and elegant.
I would like to hear the first five minutes done as a Choral arrangement or even Opera.
One of my favorite Handel compositions is “Fireworks”. I’ve always thought “Fireworks” would be a great song to play live at Trumps next inaugeration. Listen to it. It will shake you up.
For years I avoided the movie because of its reputation as boring. When I did get around to seeing it I enjoyed its historic depections of the time.
Once described as the Baroque period’s Irving Berlin, I enjoy Handel the most of all Baroque composers.
(Bach a close second place). ;)
You are a true Handelian. Bach is my #1 overall, but when it comes to vocal music, of any era, Handel looms large. When it comes to liturgical music, Bach leads, but then Bach never composed operas, and that's where Handel outshines everyone until the advent of Mozart.
This is Christopher Hogwood conducting Handel's "Acis and Galatea" at the Royal Opera House. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcvMwLFqPek
Just one great tune after another.
So beautiful. Thanks.
