These confronting images show the cats and dogs which have reportedly been thrown from tower blocks in China...One dog was found dead after allegedly being thrown from a tower block in the Heyuan Guohe Garden area of Tianjin City in China’s Hebei Province. Local media report the pooch was thrown from the upper floors of a tower block at 4am and that it smashed the sunroof of a car before ending up on the ground...Reports state the sound of the dog hitting the car woke neighbours up as it sounded like a tyre explosion...Reports also state five cats were thrown to their deaths in the city of Shanghai, with locals believing they were pets as they had smooth and clean fur.

Just like when a momma bird finds a chick with a disease. Learn to fly or die. Humans apparently are not that far removed from birds.

China has adopted quite a bit of western knowledge about health and medical care but has further to go. Remember, though, that we in the West also have problems with our multi-tiered, expensive medical rackets. And how many of us properly wash our hands when needed? The following, by the way, resembles many comments promoting many cure-alls that I’ve seen posted here.

Coronavirus rumors trigger irrational behaviors among Chinese netizens
By Chen Qingqing Source:Global Times Published: 2020/2/1 14:12:40
https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1178157.shtml
[Excerpt:]
“A report by the Xinhua News Agency on Friday night claimed Chinese patent medicine, Shuanghuanglian oral liquid, containing three herbal ingredients, is effective in containing the novel coronavirus infection, citing the latest joint research between Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica under Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wuhan Institute of Virology. The news was also reported by People’s Daily soon after. It emerged as the most searched topic on Chinese Twitter-like Weibo. People rushed to purchase the medicine online and offline, resulting in it to go off the shelves in quick succession.

Pictures circulating on social media showed residents queuing up in front of pharmacies late-night braving the chilly weather to purchase Shuanghuanglian oral liquid. Some netizens even comforted each other when they found the drugs have been all sold out, planning another try in the early morning.

However, the People’s Daily published a contrasting report Saturday morning, urging people not to rush to purchase Shuanghuanglian oral liquid, as there is no specific anti-viral treatment recommended against coronavirus infection so far. Besides, research for treatment measures is still ongoing but it is yet to pass clinical trials.”

I visited someone in a U.S. hospital about 4 years ago and was surprised to see obese hospital nurses wearing common marks of drug addicts, playing with grimy smartphones and using so-called hand sanitizer instead of washing their hands. The walls were slightly sticky and greasy. Exhausted patients were too often awakened for checks and tests.

Some butthole here in Florida just hung his veteran neighbor’s emotional support labrador....because its barking annoyed him. Then to make things worse he tried to recruit a kid to help him dispose of the dead dog.

I take it you don’t eat chickens and turkeys because they are put upside down in killing cones to facilitate cutting their throats.

“A public letter was released to foreigners in the Chinese capital city Beijing on Friday, offering a list of 101 hospitals for the treatment of fever and 20 hospitals designated for treating novel coronavirus infections.”

Below is a video of a Japanese(?) guy that lives in Wuhan. He sounds like he wants to be a reporter some day. He does “wechat” videos and has been visiting the hospitals, the new hospital construction site, etc.

A friend hooked him up with somebody showing symptoms (including x-rays showing the “glassy lung”). They would go to one hospital, and they would send them to another hospital. The doctors don’t want to “waste” the virus tests, there aren’t many of them.

I can see the same thing happening in Beijing. “Oh - you only have fever? You go to People’s Hospital #5!”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hFNOiCOLJ0&feature=youtu.be

The youtuber talks about the lack of supplies. Or even to get to the hospital. As far as I could tell, he said the taxies are allotted to each neighborhood. Four taxis to each “neighborhood” which might have 10,000 to 20,000 people! And you call the neighborhood council to arrange for the taxi!

The up side is that the number recovered is only 7 less than the number that died. 259 vs 252. The ratio is improving.

Lots of questions. What does the virus attack? When they say "recovered", does that mean exhibited antibodies? Are recovered patients immune, or can they relapse? There is an HIV factor in the DNA. "Undetectable" AIDS means they still have to medicate, and it's only suppressed symptoms.

What kind of monster did the Biowarfare lab make, and how did it get out?

In the article it talks about how N95 masks probably aren’t much help. Then the next paragraph says:

“A virus-laden aerosol plume emanating from a SARS patient with diarrhea was implicated in possibly hundreds of cases at Hong Kong’s Amoy Gardens housing complex in 2003.”

I know that a mask isn’t the first or final piece to trying to keep from getting it, but it sure seems to be an important part of it. I think these articles are written so that people far from the infection zones (for now) don’t gobble up all the masks and limit how many can get to China where they are really needed now.

I have been to china and honestly, with what I have seen there I wouldn’t be surprised that they didn’t have one of these outbreaks every week.

they did this during the SARs outbreak, too. I read where ppl would actually break into ppl’s apts and take their pets and slaughter them. Yesterday there was an article showing dogs in snout masks and the vendor claiming that dogs could catch the virus by licking something on the ground so buy his masks for Fido.
The next thing that will happen, if we go by SARs behavior, is the families of the infected will be driven from their homes for ‘disturbing harmony’ - a party crime. These are folks that think that drinking garlic water will save them. Who have sealed 12-floor apartment buildings so noone can get out. That arrested the December whistleblowers and humiliated them. There are two Chinas - the ‘young professionals’ that China projects to the world, and the rest of China still stuck in Mao-ism, superstition and ‘party loyalty’.

Thanks for #31! It looks like they have some terrible obstacles with lack of supplies, infrastructure and transportation.

On #33, I’m no expert but have a tiny bit of experience from training in the past. The use of masks is complicated.

Masks must fit the face snugly all around in order to afford moderate protection for the wearer. Breathing with them becomes difficult with any exertion (e.g., working at a job). They quickly become saturated with moisture, making breathing even more difficult. Less oxygen, less human cell repair. They must be changed out very often and properly, with close attention to many details in instructions and require exceptional personal discipline (not touching mask, proper removal, proper disposal, proper face and hand washing, etc.).

Masks are also very difficult and expensive to get now. Industrial masks with plastic frames require very frequent and thorough cleaning between filter changes when dealing with bio-threats.

Industrial masks are also noticeably heavier and more uncomfortable for wearers, tempting more mistakes (like touching mask to adjust). Military combat masks (also requiring new filters) have specialized valves and afford more breathing but are even more complicated and quite expensive and difficult to obtain.

Medical masks, unless very numerous (frequent changes) and properly used for people not physically exerting much, protect people around users more than users themselves—thus, the use in densely populated areas of China. They afford a little partial protection for people other than the wearers by decreasing the range and amount of germ discharge around the wearers.

With pathogens like coronaviruses, it’s often a game of volume or numbers. The best way is to limit time of exposure to another person (a couple of minutes or less), limit the distance from the other person (no less than two meters), to wash hands for at least 20 seconds after each contact with another person or any possibly contaminated surface and to avoid touching one’s own face. Exam gloves are good to have if changed often and removed properly. They also might help as a reminder to avoid touching the face.

A long time ago, I was forced to do many pushups for touching my face one time. With enough punishment, one can become very disciplined. ;)

From what I’ve learned so far, the best way to stop the virus would be to stock up with two months’ worth of necessities in advance and shut all retail businesses and public gatherings down. It would also be the least damaging to markets as weighed against the damage to markets and society from allowing it to continue for long.

“A long time ago, I was forced to do many pushups for touching my face one time.”

I hope that was in the military and not your dad! Although maybe that’s what I should have done with my kids!

I saw where some folks did a study of 800 or so people. I think it was about 25% of them had their dust masks on properly and fitted well.

I saw an asian guy at Costco(!) the other day with a doctor’s mask. It was down under his chin while he was talking on his phone.

(Oh, and don’t get me started on the free samples of food at Costco, people licking their fingers, then looking at packages on the shelves, dropping food on the ground. One older asian guy was having trouble spitting out his food that he didn’t like I guess. Some of it went in the garbage can at least.)
