What is a low-carb diet? Don’t ask Harvard!
The Diet Doctor ^ | Jan 23, 2020 | Dr. Bret Scher, MD

Posted on 01/26/2020 5:47:10 AM PST by BobL

At Diet Doctor, we are very clear about defining low-carb. We define ketogenic low carb diets as less than 20 grams of net carbs per day, moderate low carb as 20-50 grams per day, and liberal low carb as 50-100 grams per day. Assuming a 2,000 kcal diet, that equates to <4%, <10% and <20% of total calories.

-snip-

The latest nutritional epidemiology study out of Harvard, published this week in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, is another misrepresentation of low-carb diets.

-snip-

The lowest of the low-carb eaters still sourced 46% of their calories from carbohydrates. That was the lowest! That is more than twice the amount of our highest level, the liberal low-carb diet, defined as less than 20% carbs. That is really all we need to know about the study. It is painfully clear that any of the conclusions have nothing to do with a low-carb diet.

This is a great example of the Empire (Harvard, in this case) striking back, and it's thus rightly debunked in this piece. I had earlier read a news article about this 'study' (which is a very liberal use of the term, as pointed out in this piece), and it didn't mention the carb levels...because, as far as the author (and the cause) is concerned, Harvard is now on board saying 'low-carb' is bad, so why should the reporter put any of his 5 years of drinking and drugs (in Journalism school) to work to see if Harvard is blowing smoke?

LOW CARB / KETO PING!!!

As I’ve mentioned numerous times, the Left will fight Keto tooth-and-nail, as they fully understand that people demanding animal fat cannot co-exist with their plans to end meat production world-wide, so now they engage Harvard.

On a related topic, one of my ping-ee’s reminded me of the following article, which I had posted here 2 months ago, showing how being in Ketosis helps out in fighting off influenza - which may well be our best defense against Coronavirus, at least until a vaccine is developed.

“Ketogenic diet helps tame flu virus”

Only a plant-based, whole food diet, can prevent and reverse most chronic disease. Diets like keto, Paleo, and low-carb are damaging for the human body and long-term health. They are popular because people like to hear good things about their bad habits.

LOL - that website again.

Well, there are more than enough stories just on my ping list to fully debunk them. But keep trying!

Tried Atkins when I was 23. Thought I was fat at 123 lbs. I suffered terribly for a week (went into ketosis, lost weight). We have a joke that I hate my best friend’s husband since I met him one homicidal night in the throes of Keto Flu.

As a female, afraid to try again. Most males seem to do OK. Might be able to get rid of grains, etc. but fruit will be hard.

Anyone have any ideas for Keto for a 62 year old heavy broad that suffered on it before?

I agree, I know quite a few, They have the color of death and can’t even lift over 20 pounds. Their own body is eating their own muscle matter.

Really? How many do you know and what specifically are their ailments? Are they on a whole-food plant-based diet?

It’s easy to throw around words like the range, but you cannot the bank a whole food, plant-based diet on the science. You cannot ignore the works of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Michael Gregor, Dr. Garth Davis, dr. John McDougall, and Dr. T Colin Campbell. A whole food plant-based diet has been shown to prevent and reverse chronic disease, While high fat, animal protein diets are proven to be carcinogenic.

You can’t even string together a couple of coherent sentences. Have a burger and refocus.

OK. You got me. I’m using speech to text because I’m on my phone and it screwed up. Wow. You really debunked the science of a whole food plant-based diet with that wittty come back.

carb cycling works for me. Low grain type carbs for 4 or more days (more days if looking to lose weight) and then bump them up for a day then go back to lower carbs. No counting or whatever nonsense. plenty of water to flush body systems. some exercise ( pool workout mostly )

The bible is my guide for food types to eat - it mentions eating grains, bread, meat, fruit etc. I try to buy foods and prepare them rather then pre-made foods.

Doctors do so much damage to people and media helps them by promoting these wacky approaches to eating. Just a reminder God knows best, man is wrong often, and with medical community they ususally wait til they cash in for a while then start saying - oh, maybe we made a mistake.

Strictly the pure vegans. Weak, no strength, worthless in a work environment dependent on any physical strength. Mind consistently clouded with slow thought process.

It’s so easy for you, go ahead debunk the works of Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Michael Gregor, Dr. Garth Davis, dr. John McDougall, and Dr. T Colin Campbell. I’ll be awaiting your detailed response.
