BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Krystal Co., the Georgia-based restaurant chain known for tiny hamburgers and late-night service across the Southeast, has filed for bankruptcy, but said Tuesday that all of its locations would remain open.
Federal court documents showed Krystal sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Atlanta on Sunday. The company said it owed between $50 million and $100 million to food suppliers, equipment companies and others.
Krystal has about 300 restaurants in 10 states, 182 of which employ 4,890 people and are operated by the company, restructuring officer Jonathan M. Tibus said in a court filing. Another 116 are run by franchisees, he said.
The company previously closed more than 40 restaurants, including 13 that shut down in December, over the past year, according to court documents. Shifting consumer tastes, growing costs, tight labor markets and the growth of online food ordering all contributed to the companys financial problems, Tibus said.
The actions we are taking are intended to enable Krystal to establish a stronger business for the future and to achieve a restructuring in a fast and efficient manner, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

You missed “Royal Castle”.
Where is it??? I’ve never heard of that one...
Never heard of this place.
Agree, never order sliders as they’re nothing but stale white bread.
Can’t stand White Castle. Ate there once. Never again.
The article called out online food ordering. Can’t see how that would be a problem.
They should get into the frozen mini burger business to compete with White Castle in states where there are none. White Castle charges a ton of money for frozen burgers that aren’t nearly as good as the real thing.
Just looked it up...Were they all in Florida???
They had the most ingenious marketing ploy in the 70’s - How many Krystals can you eat? My friends and I almost knocked ourselves out trying to break our own records. I still love Krystal hamburgers to this day. They need to revamp their hiring practices and start employing folks as incredibly friendly and efficient as those who work at Chick Fil A and Bojangles!
White Castles are sold frozen here in Publix grocery stores.........
Let’s try hot dogs....
Best hot dogs...Smoky Mountain Market in South Knoxville, TN....
He died in 1969 from an explosion gone wrong while filming in Spain......................
IIRC, Hardees and Carl’s are same restaurant - different names for different geographic locations.
IMO, Hardees/Carls are superior in taste to FiveGuys, Smashburger, etc at half the price.
May Krispy Krap be next.
Burger Chef got absorbed by Hardys IIRC.
We have both Hardees and 5 Guys here.
We eat at Hardees regularly, but just one time at 5 Guys and it’s been years..............
Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....................
Cheeseburgers have been on WC ever since Ive known them.
I didn’t know until recently that Stuckey’s stores were still around.
And the point of your reply was to criticize on my post? Sad.
I didnt know that. Hardees was my first real job as a teen in high school, flippin’ burgers.
