Chinese Coronavirus Outbreak Traced Back To Snakes, Study Finds
Study Finds ^ | January 23, 2020 | John Anderer

The emergence of a new coronavirus strain in Wuhan, China last month has put the entire world on alert. Following the recent revelation that the virus can in fact be spread via human-to-human transmission, Chinese authorities have halted flights and trains departing the city and inhabitants have been advised not to travel. Meanwhile researchers have been working tirelessly to understand this new health risk, both its origins and nature, in order to formulate the best way to stop a full blown epidemic. Now, researchers appear to have zeroed in on how the virus, officially named 2019-nCoV by the World Health Organization, first spread to humans: exposure to snakes at a wholesale market.

The study concludes that the first human diagnosed with this strain of coronavirus had, in all likelihood, visited a market in Wuhan where a large assortment of wildlife were available for purchase, including snakes, bats, farm animals, poultry, and seafood.

I was talking to a co-worker originally from China. She mentioned this now notorious seafood market is right next to the maim train station of Wuhan.

I read another article which claimed that the initial attribution to snakes was incorrect; instead the source is bats.

We’ll see.

From the article the virus originated in bats then was transmitted to snakes then to humans. One has to keep in mind the virus was recombining with other viruses during its development.

Don’t some Chinese believe that consuming certain parts of snakes or bats increases sexual energy?

I just can’t imagine bats having much meat on them. I wonder if you just breast them out like a dove or other small game birds.

Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes.

Having said that, I remember carrying container loads of live snakes between Asian ports.
