I purchased, not rent, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood last night, and I've already watched it a second time, (I'm off on Monday's.) The movie is fantastic, and will be sure to please those who like witty and fun movies with actors that poke fun at themselves. I think it's up for best picture.
It will also please those of us here who were in High School and College in the 60s. In fact, there's a lot of truth in the movie, as it takes you back to those days. Think Charles Manson, spaghetti westerns, Bobby Kennedy, mediocrity in the TV industry, throwing garbage on the ground, hippies and polyester. I forgot how really stupid those times were, including the music.
Like other Trantino movies you have as many well known faces slipped in to make the scene interesting. Kurt Russel, Al Pacino, Bruce Dern and Luke Perry are all in here, but the stars are Brad Pitt and De Caprio, your eyes will by on these two the whole time. Margot Robbie plays Sharon Tate, better than Sharon Tate played herself.
In short, it's a very funny and entertaining movie with a lot going on.
that was Margaret Qualleys feet....she played “pussycat”...
oops...they did show Robbies feet too...my bad...lol
that was very sad...Jay Sebring is buried about 5 miles from me..in Southfield Michigan...
it might be mel gibson i was thinkin of with the fetish- he supposedly had a shoes fetish-
It starts out very diffusely. Pretty much just all the various characters doing their own thing, though Rick and Cliff often touch base due to their friendship. Then things start to slowly come together as the various characters meet and interact towards the final scene at Rick’s.
Part of the movie is following Rick’s precarious arc as an actor. Another is watching Cliff getting by and dealing with all the characters he runs into. A sliver is following Sharon Tate and only because you know who Sharon is and what you expect to happen to her. (Ironically, knowing who Sharon Tate is _before_ you see the movie helps you enjoy it more than if you don’t.) Their threads come together at the end.
theres videos online of full theaters...people cheering and yelling..clapping when the slime get the beat downs...Pitt does a real number on “Patricia Krenwinkle”...heh...
Agree about Richard Jewell. He shouldve been nominated for best actor for
His amazing portrayal of Richard!
I might be wrong but it seems to me that any movie that is about Hollywood gets an Oscar nod, regardless of its artistic merits. Over the years some real dogs have been nominated and often won.
That’s awesome, will have to check those videos out.
Back in the day Tarantino used to sometimes do things just for the shock value, and that ending scene on its face is similar to some of his more shock value shocking types of scenes. But that’s what Tarantino really felt and wanted to do to those people, that what everyone felt.
As someone else stated, the intercom scene and watering up a bit. Yup, for 2 fold. Rick Dalton having hope again, and in real life, knowing what actually happened. It’s sobering.
I didn’t realize that was Manson in the van. I thought it was Tex.
I am not fond of Tarentino’s work but OUATIH is really, really good.
50 years on..its still one of the most historic, brutal ..horrible crimes ever. Author Greg King wrote a book on the murders...the chapter he wrote of the actual killings..i read it once and that was enough for me. How Sharon, as she was being stabbed, whimpered and called out for her mother.....those dirty bastards.
Manson was pissed at Melcher for not following thru on a promise to help his “recording career”...Manson also had been to the house on Cielo Drive a few times...but he knew Melcher had moved out, and that house was chosen because it was so secluded. I went to the house in 1990...at 2 oclock in the after noon, it was even creepy...just a sad sad story all around.
I think it didn’t do to well at the box office because most of the audience today is unfamiliar with the Manson family and the Tate murders. It was a very “inside” movie for Hollywood and unless once knew of some of the tales of Hollywood of that era some of it didn’t make much sense.
I guess I’d be able to take Tarantino’s “alternate reality” endings a little better if Rod Serling walked out at the end and explained that the characters had taken a detour to...
When Dalton (DiCaprio) is flying back from Italy sporting his new “mod” look, at first glance, I thought it was Jack Black...
They are infatuated with Judy which will win an oscar or two for the same reason
My favorite part of the movie was the flame thrower....
