Tina Fey, Amy Poehler to replace Ricky Gervais as Golden Globes hosts
The Washington Times ^ | Sunday, January 12, 2020 | Lynn Elber - Associated Press

PASADENA, Calif. — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will share host duties for the Golden Globes ceremony in 2021.

Poehler herself shared the announcement at a TV critics meeting Saturday, just a week after the ceremony aired with Ricky Gervais as host.

“There are no two funnier people anywhere,” said Poehler, who introduced herself with the name of an NBC publicist who was to have opened the network’s daylong presentation about its programming.

A tongue-in-cheek Poehler said the network was glad the pair found time in their busy schedules to take on the Globes. They have hosted three times before.

At last Sunday’s ceremony, Gervais’ snarky jokes in his fifth turn as host received mixed reviews and reactions from the celebrity audience. Poehler and Fey earned a warmer reception for their comedic approach.

Gervais repeatedly said during the ceremony that it was the last time he intended to emcee. A total of 18.3 million viewers tuned in, a small drop over the 18.6 million who watched the 2019 ceremony co-hosed by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.

“There’s no denying that Tina and Amy’s comedic chemistry is infectious,” said Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which bestows the TV and movie awards. “We can’t wait to see the dynamic duo return to the Golden Globes stage.”

Poehler joked that she couldn’t wait to present the best film award to the video, “Puppy Dog Bouncing in the Box Like This.”

It did hurt Palin but otherwise she did us a big favor by helping McCain lose. Without Tina Fey there would be no Trump.

The Emmies, Golden Globe and Oscars, who cares! The Hollywood elite are boring hypocrites. I remember decades ago, I was watching Johnny Carson or the Dick Cavett show with Katherine Hepburn as the guest. She said her job as a Hollywood star was to be fascinating. Well, none of these modern day “stars” are fascinating! None! I remember David Niven hosting the Oscars and dealing with a streaker running past him live on stage! His reaction was so classic, so funny and so classy!

Thanks for posting the video of David Niven and the Streaker.

It was really funny.

An extra-added bonus is the appearance of Elizabeth Taylor at the end of the tape. OMG, she looked absolutely beautiful....and her gown was stunning, stunning, stunning. Wow!

I never was much of a fan of her acting, but now my memory was jogged as to why she was considered the "most beautiful woman in the world" at that time.

The Oscars were so much fun in those days. Now they are tedious and boring. Yes, Hollywood stars were “Stars” in those days.

There are buttplugs for the butthurt elitists in Hollyweird. They should bandage up and use them.

It takes two women to handle a job that one man performed with ease.

He appeared to be reading a teleprompter when he paused and questioned going ahead with the joke about the woman in Cats licking her own crotch.

You're right - it was a setup.

Ricky was scripted to do a job, which was to spank the crowd, humble them, to rehabilitate them Hollywood style. Isn't that the way it's done, a short stint in a pricey clinic, a little discomfort, a public display of obeisance, then it's back to business as usual?

Forget about that Weinberg/Spacey business - one night of ridicule served to restore the moral high ground - now suitably chastened and "woke", they can get back to work - being the world's moral compass. Besides, it's great theatre - call it "50 Shades of Gervais".

Next time, they can get back to telling us what to believe.

If they really were upset and wanted to pull the plug something like this would’ve happened:

Beatles Reunion at the 1975 Grammys (4 minutes watch the whole things)

GAH, the version I’d previous found has Paul, Ringo, and George all approach the stage and then it cuts to a breaking news item with some local anchors fiddling around at the desk and when the program returns all of them are leaving the stage.

Gervais was funny. Hollywood can’t take a joke, sanctimonious asses.

Well Hollywood’s “prizes” are always political...and since they are leftists those they award are in their loop. Therefore they have no meaning whatsoever to skill or performance.

Recall the line up of celebrities Obama awarded? That was payback for Hollywoods supporting him....none of them deserved a single one.

Give the show an “R” rating and then let Dave Chappelle host.

A “fairy”. Amy - not funny.
