Patriots lose stunner to Titans, 20-13, in first round of NFL playoffs
Washington Post ^ | January 4, 2020 | Sam Fortier

A team quarterbacked by Ryan Tannehill beat Tom Brady’s Patriots in the playoffs in Foxborough. It was the second straight shocking loss for the Patriots, and it ended a season that started with so much promise and hope behind a historically good defense.

The Titans rode the NFL rushing champion, Derrick Henry, to the win. His 178 yards on the ground were the most for a player in the playoffs since Colin Kaepernick had 181 as the San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback in 2013.

This home loss in the wild-card is uncharacteristic for the Patriots. It prompts questions about the continued viability of a dynasty that began in 2001. One of the main characters, Brady, is now a free agent, and though it seems unlikely, it’s possible one of the greatest quarterbacks ever has played his last game with the only franchise he’s ever known.

Excellent receivers? Edelman...and who?

They HAD Antonio Brown, who caught 15 TDs in 2018 and averaged 1,600 yds over the past 6 seasons.

They cut him because his former gold-digging trainer made unsubstantiated sexual accusations against him, partially because of the #MeToo nonsense.

They didn't have that as a potent option -- and the Pats are STILL going to have to pay Brown millions they promised him when he wins his arbitration case against them. Just stupid.

As an aside, it’s remarkable how Tannehill has flourished at Tennessee after tough years in Miami.

that's the Adam Gase effect...who is now inflicting it on what should be a good Jets squad.

I saw him talk to the other quarterback. Briefly.

Not as brief as Bellicose's handshake of his pupil Vrabel.

If AB was not a nut job, he would have changed their whole season.

All he did was get accused by a wackjob broad. The Pats didn't have to release him.

3. Brady stays IF they can get a long receiver.

They HAD the best on in football (at least over the past 2-4 years) -- AB -- and pissed him away.

Mike Vrabel uses Bill Belichick’s own NFL rulebook loophole against him in Titans win over Patriots

That's TWO STRAIGHT losses by Bellichick in two weeks against former pupils (Miami's Brian Flores, former Pats asst coach)

“Lynn Swann was a Pittsburgh star, but he was not all time great either.”

Willie Brown (Raiders) said Swann was the softest receiver he played against. Breathe on him hard and he fell down.
Willie said Stallworth was the stud of the Steelers receiving corp.

the Patriots dynasty is over

It's been said that it's inevitable. The players coming into the NFL now grew up watching the Belichik/Brady game. They've developed the skills to compete on those terms.

It was painful watching John the last couple of years he played.
The year in San Diego was particularly bad.

Poor Jackie, folks still remember that one

I knew him as a boy

His little sister went to school with me at French and Hardy and he was a member of our deer camp in Tensas parish where he lived off season

I think his wife was from there near Newellton

He’s HOF but like now Edelman it was a pass he’d rather not have had bounce off his knee I think

The ball was quite low but he could have caught it for sure

Five time pro bowler

He punted too when called upon

Very nice modest guy

I was at Ole Miss then in an apartment with several ole miss players who were friends and everyone know that I knew Jackie and we were southern and so Cowboy fans

When that happened all my pals were like ....”man sorry for your friend people are gonna remember that one”

Yep

A lifetime ago
