It was expected that Jason Garrett would be formally relieved of his post as Dallas Cowboys head coach shortly after the disappointing finish to the team's 2019 season, but New Year's Eve and then New Year's Day passed without much word coming from the team's facility. However, the Cowboys and owner Jerry Jones have reportedly decided to enter the 2020 season without Garrett as the team's coach, a source told ESPN's Ed Werder.
"After showing an 'abundance of care and respect,' for Garrett, Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have decided the coach will not be part of the organization moving forward," ESPN reports. Werder tweeted Thursday evening that the "next phase to involve candidate interviews will begin quickly" after Garrett's firing is made official.

It’s true.
How many years were they gonna give him?
I think they waited too long.
I dont see Urban Meyer and Jerry Jones getting along all that well.
But Dak remains. Haha. Good luck Dallas.
Breaking: Cowboys hire new head coach! And he’s also the owner!!
A pretty average New York Giants team won two Super Bowls (2007 and 2011) partly because their path to the playoffs was very easy while playing in the same division as two of the most meddlesome owners in pro sports (Jerry Jones and Dan Snyder).
I think the end came on Nov 24. It was 4th and 7, with Dallas on the NE 11 yard line with a couple of minutes to go. The score was Dallas 6, NE 13. Garrett decided to kick a FG, and subsequently the game ended with Dallas 9, NE 13. Jones was pretty disgusted.
Quel Surprise!
*ping*
Agreed.
i thought Jones got better. I guess I was wrong.
I think the Giants were 8-8 one year when they won the SB.
That’s crazy
Wow!
The Field Goal just doesn’t help at all in a situation like that.
13-6?
Two field goals doesn’t help.
a touchdown is all that’s needed.
Was he that afraid that NE would at least score a field goal on their next drive?
Geez
They were 9-7 in 2011 and still managed to win the NFC East.
My bad.
And that’s pathetic :)
Since 1970, 10 wildcard teams have made it to the SB and 6 have won.
I just looked that up out of curiosity. :)
It’s a lot more than I would have thought.
Oh, screw Jerry Jones. That's a standard 4th down call. Can't blame Jason Garrett for making it, even though the field goal was unsuccessful.
Them's the breaks in major league sports.
It’s ESPN. Take it with a 80 pound bag of salt. Still I hope it’s true. Garrett sucks! Only problem is who will want to sell their dignity as a coach to have Jerry Jones hand up their ass calling his plays?
Very interesting! Some of those were really good wild card teams. Most of them had 10 wins or more, and a couple of them were 12-4 and 13-3 teams that just happened to play in the same division as another dominant team.
Aw crap. I didn’t notice what the score was in that situation. Garrett made a bad call.
My mistake.
Oh, screw Jerry Jones. That's a standard 4th down call.
...unless you're playin' ta WIN...
It may very well have been Jason’s decision and not Jerry’s.
