A systematic review and meta-analysis led by St. Michael's Hospital of Unity Health Toronto found children who drank whole milk had 40 per cent lower odds of being overweight or obese compared with children who consumed reduced-fat milk.
The research, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analyzed 28 studies from seven countries that explored the relationship between children drinking cow's milk and the risk of being overweight or obese. None of the studieswhich involved a total almost 21,000 children between the ages of one and 18 years oldshowed that kids who drank reduced-fat milk had a lower risk of being overweight or obese. Eighteen of the 28 studies suggested children who drank whole milk were less likely to be overweight or obese.
The findings challenge Canadian and international guidelines that recommend children consume reduced-fat cow milk instead of whole milk starting at age two to reduce the risk of obesity.
"In our review, children following the current recommendation of switching to reduced-fat milk at age two were not leaner than those consuming whole milk."
Dr. Maguire, who is also a scientist at the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions, next hopes to establish the cause and effect of whole milk and lower risk of obesity in a randomized controlled trial.
"All of the studies we examined were observational studies, meaning that we cannot be sure if whole milk caused the lower risk of overweight or obesity. Whole milk may have been related to other factors which lowered the risk of overweight or obesity," Dr. Maguire said.
"A randomized controlled trial would help to establish cause and effect but none were found in the literature."

This is further fallout from the Ancel Keyes multi-decade hoax that many other scientists confirmed through biased studies.
The Global Warming crowd of hoaxers has been following their example quite well.

The very idea that fat makes you fat is as anti-science as you can get, but all the snowflakes believe it.
It’s Physiology 101.
It takes lots of energy to metabolize fat.
The net energy from fat metabolism is not much.
Same goes for protein.
If all you have to eat is fat or protein, you will eventually starve to death.
We live in such an anti-science age it’s mind-boggling.
None of the things our betters tell us are science actually are.
It’s the red cap or nothing, for me.
Cows milk is for caIves , not humans.
Except for Mother’s milk, I haven’t drank milk in 70 years. Yuk!! Gross.
“Fat — for lack of a better word — is good.” — Gordon Gekko
Although my kids ate some cheese...I still eat cheese...but do not drink milk..
I make "ice cream"...but it's all fruit...
The study compared people who drank
Whole milk (therefore with natural vitamin A)
and
Skin milk with added synthetic vitamin A.
It might be that the synthetic vitamin A was the fattening factor.
Yeah, the real study would be zero milk (after weaning) vs. whole milk.
People are brainwashed into assuming it’s necessary at all.
Rice milk
Just because something wanders into your brain pan doesn’t mean it has value.
I never drank milk as a kid and I don’t drink it now-don’t like the taste-we had cattle, so I did eat yogurt, cheese and butter...
The very idea that fat makes you fat is as anti-science as you can get

But use butter..and cheese...
Also concluding that its better to cook in butter than vegetable oil.
Healthy fats are good.
In moderation as with all things!
Really? There is not even a meta study? Hard to believe. Somebody has missed an opportunity.
