The first question you have to ask yourself is what you hope to gain by putting a government target on your back, and those in your family. In 1997 I hosted a national militia meeting on my property in Texas; it was a large encampment of militia leaders and members from all over the country. We even made the cover of Time Magazine as a militia hotspot. What was the goal of this get-together?
Now back to the purpose of the meeting. Militia leaders were being picked off by the federales via entrapment schemes similar to what happened to Randy Weaver in Idaho. Government informants joined these groups and set up the leaders by doing things such as planting explosive devices (pipe bombs) on militia leaders property to be discovered during federal raids. Other informants acted as instigators (our Texas group had one) prodding leaders and members into taking action that would unnecessarily put the unit in danger (physical and legal), and in a bad light to the public. Some informants got militia members on tape talking about planning illegal activities (this was actually a lot of empty bullshit boasting).

Sounds like it was, in a manner of speaking.
lol.
Sounds like Chesterton’s, “The Man Who Was Thursday.”
Haven’t read it, but Chesterton was a very good writer. I’ll have to see if I can find it. :)
I always just figured that anything posted or replied to on FR was being monitored by the Feds.
Hell, there are just about as many Fed Flunkies out there as regular citizens.
YUP; don’t usually approve of making widows and orphans, but sometimes it becomes necessary.
Sometimes it’s good to be an old fart with nothing to lose.
The jury refused to convict him of it.
As we have seen with President Trump, many in the police and intelligence agencies are not above fabricating evidence.
Yes, but many of those same people in Virginia are not above opposing unconstitutional laws proposed by tyrants, as well.
There are various participants in a civil war, and some aren’t mobile units. The war in South Vietnam was fought by local communists in local actions (primarily at night) and other more mobile units (young South Vietnamese communists and North Vietnamese regulars) that moved all over - they weren’t tied down by farming and such.
Let me restate my position: Most of the people in my area who are “militia-types” are fat old men who would have heart attacks from running the other way from a fight. They are all talk and no action. In fact, most of them would not be able to take any action.
My point is not logistical, it is a commentary on the two types of people out there: Idiots. And people who simply never talk of their capabilities.
I see; makes sense.
I think people are capable of more than you’d expect if their homes/families were endangered. Barring that, I don’t see a lot of motivation for people to pick up arms. Our government has learned from both the French and Bolshevik revolutions that hungry people can achieve incredible things; that is why we have the heaviest “poor” people in history.
