A movement to rename Dixie Highway for some a painful reminder of a tragic, racist past might be gaining steam in Broward County.
The argument is being made by one of Broward Countys youngest elected officials after she heard of a similar effort in Miami-Dade.
The name Dixie harkens back to an era that glorified slavery and white supremacy, says 22-year-old Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana. Her fellow city commissioners agree, approving a resolution in early December urging Broward commissioners to take up the cause.

Who would want to be the mayor of vice?
I remember Pixie and Dixie from 1960.

So many little kids indoctrinated with this “reicis” message.
No, it is not racist. But so what if it is? Everything that existed at the time of slavery could be considered racist. SLAVES could be considered racist.
As for the “painful reminder” baloney — I don’t believe it for a New York minute. It is MADE UP. It is “pooah widdle us, feel sahwee foah us.” No. The answer is no.
Why do we let them get away with this crap?
“She should go into a VA and thank...”
Speaking solely for myself, I’d just as soon not see her down at the VA.
“Until EVERY homeless veteran is comfortably off the streets”
That’s not going to happen, because there are a lot of veterans who would rather sleep rough than be treated like a child by people like AOC and these cunning runts.
If a guy walks into a shelter with half a pack of cigarettes, two joints, and a Coors tall boy, the first thing they do is take them away. What the hell? Is this a grown man or not? When he got back to base after a fire fight, did they confiscate his smokes and his beer?
It appears that the people running these things would rather see the vets out in the freezing cold than to see them smoke a joint and drink a beer before they turn in.
Oh for PFFT sake. These people need to find a life. They probably want to call it Alcee Hastings Highway.
Change them all to “Yankee Highways”.......Problem solved...
Kinda like “assistant to the regional manage.”
There’s a brand of beer in New Orleans
called Dixie. No one’s called it racist yet.
Florida has a Dixie County, too. What about that?
Are The Dixie Chicks Racist?
But well adjusted people don't let words and objects trigger them. Others, they love having some excuse to act outraged and offended and angry.
The good news is that we’ll be able to coax her off of that soapbox for a long time, then.
PS: Homeless ‘shelters’ aren’t the only answer and are not necessarily even close to the best answer, either
Look away, look away, look away,
Dixie Land....
“way down yonder in the land of cotton
Old times there ain’t near as rotten as they are
On this damned old L.A. street-lyrics of Dixie,
a song by Dwight Yoakam.
They’ll be wanting to do away with anything “jazz”
next, as it’s refered to as “Dixie”. It sounds like
the progressives are trying to wipe the slate clean,
and begin construction of their version of utopia.
ALL American history wiped out. All the things that
made us, Americans.
I wonder if she is a Democrat? Does she know the background of her political party? Look up senator Byrd - and please let us know when she goes off on the Dems.
Have mercy!......Just stop this!!!!
DIXIE DIXIE DIXIE!!!!.....get over it.....its a place in time....it survives in many forms!
One of my friends is named Dixie
ie.....Dixie Carter
..ie...Dixie Chicks...( although that didnt turn out well!)
YOU CANT ERASE HISTORY
Of course it is! It it describes an area that isn’t overrun by non-racist elite white progressives yet. If they do they should rename every state in the south because of slavery and...stuff.
The Lincoln Highway went from Times Square in New York City to Lincoln Park in San Francisco.
Lincoln Park is on the northwest corner of San Fran and (on clear days) has views of the Golden Gate Bridge, SF Bay, and the Pacific Ocean.
The Golden Gate Bridge was not built until almost 30 years after the park opened.
