"The skipper of a yacht discovered the body floating in a lagoon off Belle-Mare on Thursday morning,”

I wonder if the skipper spotted any giant redwoods in or around the lagoon?

My grandfather was killed while cutting wood for a mountain charity so people could stay warm.

A limb up above on another tree somehow came loose and hit him.

They figured it was instantaneous. He’d never want to rot away.

Just a thought...

Saint Brendan is the patron saint of mariners and Saint Adjutor is the patron saint of swimmers and drowning victims.

I nearly drowned once when snorkeling in the Bahamas.

I was in perhaps 35 feet of water. The wasn't a ripple all the way out to the horizon which sort of blended into the sky. Water was crystal clear.

I was between two reefs that rose up from the bright white sand nearly to the surface. An arch connected the two reefs. I decided to swim beneath the arch. Once through the arch, it was so beautiful, I continued to the sandy bottom where I just looked all around in amazement at the beauty.

The scenery was so beautiful that I wanted to stay longer and ignored my body telling me I needed to come up for air.

When I began my ascent, I was already in some distress, a distress which increased exponentially as I ascended with increasing urgency.

Just before breaking the surface, I remember genuinely not knowing if I would make it, the desire to inhale was so strong.

When I finally broke the surface, I was gasping desperately for air and If I had been an older man could easily have had a heart attack given the distress I was in.

Another 3 feet and I might have swallowed water although, my upwards momentum would have caused me to break the surface where I probably could have recovered.

Both could lead to drowning.

Sounds like what happened to Franco Columbo this year. Had a heart attack while swimming.

Snorkeling is a YOUNG MAN’s sport.
Unless you’re in your 20s or 30s (or a really fit 40s), then expect problems.

That’s silly. I’m 64 and I snorkel frequently. There is really nothing to it. All my momentum is done by my legs, nor arm movements are needed. I’m breathing continually and it is always in water up to 15’ - 20’ deep. It’s really gentle and benign.

Why do you think it is a young man’s sport?

If you’re breathing continually, then this situation would not apply to you.

The referenced article describes people holding their breath (which, as you know, snorkeled often do).

We have dominoes, Pizza Hut, and papa Johns. The one that still amazes me is little Caesar’s which practically gives the pizza away. It’s so cheap in cost that I’m amazed it makes it.
