Former Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., is warning his former colleagues in the Senate that they, along with President Trump, will be on trial when the articles of impeachment eventually move from the House to the upper chamber.
President Trump is on trial. But in a very real sense, so are you. And so is the political party to which we belong, Flake writes in an op-ed for The Washington Post Friday. [ ]
Flake urges Republicans to consider the evidence, but at the same time not to repeat House Republican assertions the president hasnt done anything wrong: He has.
The willingness of House Republicans to bend to the presidents will by attempting to shift blame with the promotion of bizarre and debunked conspiracy theories has been an appalling spectacle, Flake argues. It will have long-term ramifications for the country and the party, to say nothing of individual reputations.
He asks what Republicans would have done if President Barack Obama had engaged in the same behavior, in regards to Ukraine. I know the answer to that question with certainty, and so do you. You would have understood with striking clarity the threat it posed, and you would have known exactly what to do, he says.

Would shock treatment work on this snowflake?
Sure. I recommend a 230 grain shock at 900 FPS applied to his occipital lobe.
Works every time.

“President Trump is on trial. But in a very real sense, so are you. And so is the political party to which we belong, Flake writes”
So all those Republican Senators were bridged onto that phone call? What a conference call!
Republicans must do as Democrats demand. Because otherwise theyll be damned by history.
Because Democrats are as pure driven as the snow and are above criticism. Yeah, sure.
This tells me that no Republican currently in office was willing to put his or her name on this pile of slop. This includes Mitt Romney, who has not been shy about stepping to the plate for the CIA/Swamp like this in the past.
I think the shock came when he realized nobody liked him and that he couldn’t even win a primary.
Now he’s just babbling...
Any Republican who writes for the WashCompost should be put on ignore.
Now, now...The democrats and Obama helped the Ukraiane...
They gave Russia the OK to attack Ukraine, then gave the Ukrainians blankets to hide behind and MREs to throw at the attacking Russian troops...
What more could they have done???
Give them weapons and ammo???LOL
I agree.
I thought we got rid of this guy. He reminds me of many
History doesn't look to quitters for words of wisdom. The look to winners and leaders for their advice.
And Jeff Flake was never a winner or a leader. He's a quitter.
And now he's giving us his advice on what to do.
“Nothing wrong happened”
The assumption that offering an inducement to the government of Ukraine to cooperate in the investigation of obvious bribery was “something wrong” is a big problem.
The President’s repeated denials of perfectly normal Presidential behavior seems to affirm that IF he did offer a quid pro quo to Ukraine to get them to investigate the Bidens (among other things) that then he did “something wrong”, when he obviously did not.

Actually Jeff is right. This is not about President Trump. This is a classic battle between Republicans and Democrats. This is an epic battle between the House of Representatives and the Senate.
The fact that Trump is under impeachment is of very little value. We all know that Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans could not give a care about President Trump. They would throw him under the bus in a heartbeat if they could.
But it would mean a tremendous loss of power and influence by Republicans to the Democrats. That they will not allow.
Mr. Flake NEEDS to learn that it is the DIMocRATS Party that is ON TRIAL & they will be adjudged GUILTY by the American people & they will be IRRELEVANT thereafter.
Yours, TMN78247
Not only would that not have been wrong, but there is no evidence for it. There is nothing they have to point to. So they’re liars.
The retromingent jackass should have been defenestrated long ago.
Living down to his name...
VP Biden did much worse, appearance wise, than Trump regarding Ukraine. Biden even bragged about holding aid hostage until he got a Ukrainian prosecutor fired. Nevertheless, the VP is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He claims the prosecutor was corrupt.
So, no, Flake. I wouldnt treat Obama any differently. The Obama administration doesnt need to bring forth exculpatory evidence to prove their innocence, and I certainly wouldnt call rooting out a corrupt prosecutor abuse of presidential powers to #1 enforce the law and #2 conduct foreign diplomacy.
He was forced out because of his unpopularity.
Now Flake is dispensing advice to Republicans on how to deal with Trump.
A guy who couldnt get elected dogcafcher in AZ. Go figure.
lol
It reminds me of a guy appealing to a woman’s “better nature” to take him back.
Pretty soon they’ll be begging :)
