Democrat Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey officially announced his decision to switch political parties and pledged his support for President Donald Trump on Thursday.
I believe that this is just a better fit for me, Van Drew told reporters on Thursday at the White House. This is who I am. Its who I always was, but there was more tolerance of moderate Democrats, of Blue Dog Democrats, of Conservative Democrats, and I think thats going away.
Van Drew met with Trump in the Oval Office together with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and Vice President Mike Pence to discuss his decision. Trump called his decision a big deal noting that it had been about ten years since a member of Congress switched parties to become a Republican.
Its a very big deal, McCarthy agreed. Because hes going from the majority to the minority. It normally doesnt go that way. Yeah, but hes very smart because he knows its not going to be the minority for long, Trump replied. I have a feeling were going to do very well in 2020.
Van Drew noted that one of his political heroes continued to be former President Ronald Reagan. He said, I didnt leave my party, my party left me, Van Drew said. Im saying the same thing.
The former Democrat pledged his support for Trump in the next election. You have my undying support, and always, Van Drew said. By the way, same way, Trump replied shaking Van Drews hand and adding, Im endorsing him."

If he votes the party line as a Republican, just as he did as a Democrat, he’ll be ... a reliable party-line representative.
Well there is 1 decent democrat out of millions.
We need to keep on eye on this guy. I really have a hard time trusting party jumpers.
Isn’t this the POS that stayed Demonic to vote FOR the impeachment, then changes his a “Trump-supporting” RINO the next day? Yeah, this is the kind of scum we need....
Hes being crucified by activists and could use our support
He voted against impeachment as a democrat
“Is it now 17 seats we need to flip for control of the House? “
We better hurry up, we’re being flooded with third worlders.
“We need to keep on eye on this guy. I really have a hard time trusting party jumpers.”
Yes.
Yes
He is now a true captive. If he fails to follow the party, he is gone
However, there is more than voting. If he lacks the republican aptitude to actually contribute,he will still be gone with a real Republican ousting him
Reagan jumped parties.
There were a lot of them in the 80s. But single jumpers are more opportunists than some shift in party issues. But I bet if more Democrats actually looked at where there party is headed, there would be a lot more jumpers.
Yeah, but hes very smart because he knows its not going to be the minority for long, Trump replied.
Thank God for the President.
Trump jumped parties.
Lots of people here used to be Dems.
Epiphanies happen.
I don’t know what his district is like, but he could be replaced by a Republican or a Democrat, if he doesn’t suit his constituents.
I don’t see how voters could be happy with a “representative” who voted consistently Democrat, and then be happy with the same guy if he voted consistently Republican. As “uniparty” as things have become, there are still significant policy differences in quite a few areas.
We need to flip 18. We were down to 200 by the time all those Kalifornia seats were stolen last year. Then, the traitor Amash knocked us down to 199. Drew gets us back to 200. We need 218.
And roundhouse slaps upside the head.
I found and “liked” his FB page.
Will down vote all the liberal attacks on him.
Lets recap. Since this impeachment circus began, we have
1 expired Dem
1 Naked bong smoking, hair brushing, Dem who left office
1 Dem who flipped parties and is now Repub
Yes, its working well.
Heh.
