FBI Warned Six Months Ago About Loophole Pensacola Shooter Used To Obtain A Gun
Hot Air ^ | 12/11/2019 | staff

Posted on 12/11/2019 9:33:05 AM PST by Kid Shelleen

The FBI warning, dated May 22 and titled “Federal Hunting License Exception Could Be Exploited by Extremists or Criminal Actors Seeking to Obtain Firearms for Violent Attacks,” was sent from the bureau’s Office of Private Sector, according to a copy reviewed by Yahoo News. The warning encouraged businesses to be aware that “extremists and other criminal actors could exploit the federal statutory exception that allows non-immigrant visa holders” who normally can’t buy firearms or ammunition to legally purchase them “with a valid hunting license or permit.”

The warning goes on to note that foreign “terrorist organizations, including ISIS, have encouraged Westerners to exploit perceived gaps in gun laws to conduct mass casualty shooting attacks in their home countries,” and that foreign national visa holders “could use this hunting license exception to obtain firearms to commit violence in the Homeland.”

An utter disgrace the FBI wasted resources to frame a president instead of protecting US citizens.

(The above post is the total text posted at Hot Air. I think they just quoted a Yahoo news story.)

I don’t think any non-citizen should be able to buy a gun, even green card holders.
No guns until you take the oath as a citizen.

A now retired gun dealer in town said...to whoever was conducting the background check...that he wouldn’t sell a gun to anyone not born in America.

It’s possible there’s THOUSANDS of these FBI knew... things.

Maybe it’s like me perusing stocks and reading a one line sentence about a single stock and how it might be a good buy and then moving on.

If it rockets 6 months later, I KNEW about it but very briefly and in passing.

or i could be wrong and the FBI is a Disaster

I believe the law says you must be a lawful resident...So a green card holder, temporary or permanent resident qualifies. But these foreign students, either on work or student permits normally do not.

I have run into students in NRA classes I have taught in the past where they were foreign students or workers on visas, and they would obtain a hunting license so that they could legally handle guns in the class or even purchase them.

It is clear after this incident that this hunting license loophole has a problem. For starters, a person obtaining a hunting permit is probably not going to use a 9mm handgun to hunt...

So what kind of hunting would be done with a 9mm pistol?

Sounds like the FBI jumped off their horse and spooked it so everyone would go on a wild goose chase down the wrong trail.

I have not seen how he was able to get the gun on onto the base, though? I think 0bama made sure all military bases were “gun-free” or something?

Agree. The Constitution is written to protect the rights of citizens. We are being generous, unnecessarily so (IMHO), when we extend all of those rights to non-citizens.

I’m thinking the above is a pile of equine feces intended to put the Bureau in a positive light. Nice try, but no dice! Remember, this is the same FBI that, 18 years ago, disapproved the FISA Affidavit that would have allowed them to get into Zacharias Moussaoui’s (the so-called 19th hijacker) computer, phone and emails prior to 9/11.

Unfortunately, everyone at the FBI was too busy doctoring emails and having sex with each other to take any action on the report.
