This might be a new one. A recent armed Toronto carjacking went wrong because the two young attempted thieves didn't know how to drive stick. The car in question was not an automatic drive, so they were left with no choice but to abandon ship.
Toronto Police's news release says the incident occurred last month at York University. The armed assailants were actually both minors.
They failed to steal the car itself because, well, they didn't know how. A 15-year-old and 17-year old boy are each facing multiple charges.

Just the bucking of superstructure - the actual frame is steel.
And always use analog clocks on your walls--they can't tell time with those.
The story starts off: “This might be a new one.”
Nope. I’ve read countless articles over the past few years about idiots stealing stick shift cars, and abandoning them due the lack of ability to drive them.
I have an old 2001 Turbo SAAB 5 speed stick shift I enjoy driving to this day.
That’s Ducky...
I got the Morgan factory tour when we were there in ‘16. Your classic is my favorite, not that fond of the new aero style with BMW V8. My wishlist would marry a +4 chassis with the new front suspension on the new Speedster 6 cal. BRG, tan top, black painted wire wheels.
Women car thieves?
A 17 year old is not a boy.
I had an MGB for a few years. It was odd topping off the oil in the carbs!
Having had a broken arm once and a broken leg another time, I can say an automatic was a Godsend each of those times. To drive a stick shift you need both arms and legs to be functional; with an an automatic you can do it with one arm and one leg.
Not being a watcher of NCIS, I was only recently made aware that 'Ducky' drove one...
Sounds like a great name for a profession team. 8>)
RE Ford 302:
That was just a punched-out 289, I believe. But they run forever.
Chevy 283/307: Great engines, yes.
With Proper maintenance, those critters ran forever...
Had a 390 Mustang years ago, that thing was Beast. Scary fast, with no weight in the ass end. Jumped all over the road, but man, what a thrill.
It has long been known that stick shifts are the most effective form of car-theft prevention.
I've done it, but kind of wish she would learn how to drive them.
404 Unimog, U1300L Unimog.
6 speeds forward, 2 reverse, mechanical four wheel drive and diff locks, and 8 speeds forward, 4 reverse with four wheel drive and diff locks air shift.
I find them easy to drive, but they have their quirks.
If you leave the shifting levers in a certain configuration, nobody who doesn't know Unimogs is going to go anywhere.
It's also great as an anti kid device.
Save the manuals.
Gotta love that one of the accompanying pictures shows an old Porsche 911 with an ancient-looking car phone.
I guess that was the only file photo they could find.
That jeep has a small trans.
