I'm Totally Perplexed (Medical Issue)
Vanity ^ | 12/07/2019 | Oshkalaboomboom

In early September of this year my wife starting having problems with her feet going numb. Because she had no feeling in her feet she couldn't maintain her balance and it's become harder and harder to walk. The numbness has spread and now she can't feel her legs and even has occasional tightness in her chest. When we have to do any walking outside she now sits in a wheelchair and I push her around.

She has been getting a lot of tests done and the doctors believe it is now either Sarcoidosis or Lymphoma. She is going in for a surgical biopsy next week, which will involve a stay in the hospital of 4 days.

I'm grateful she is getting treatment but I can't get my head around how a problem in the lungs can make your feet numb. Are there any FReepers who have had a family member in a similar situation so they can explain it to me?

Another problem is that from what I've read about Lymphoma it causes a breakdown of the immune system but my wife hasn't had any health problems besides this numbness, not even a case of the sniffles. I just don't get it.

I’m assuming ALS has been ruled out.

Yeah. It’s a chronic form of GB. Mine occurred a few weeks after my first (and last) flu shot in 1999. So I think it was that. It is an autoimmune response

Tell your wife to stop eating all sugars. I had a remission of all symptoms with a diet of only steamed fish, rice and vegetables for 6 months. Drink only fresh water. No sugary drinks.

I also had PN and went almost zero carb and had immediate relief. Even now after 2 yrs when I eat some carbs like bread and pasta I start to have numbness. There is an excellent book called Sugar Crush by Dr Jacoby “What Grain Brain did for wheat, this book by a leading peripheral nerve surgeon now does for sugar, revealing how it causes crippling nerve damage throughout the body—in our feet, organs, and brain—why sugar and carbohydrates are harmful to the body’s nerves, and how eliminating them can mitigate and even reverse the damage.”

I have heard of this condition before and the cure was to cut all fats from your diet. Of course there will be some fats that are unavoidable and we need some fat anyway. .I have seen this work, my relative went from a cane to a walker to a wheelchair and about 3 months after cutting fats the feeling began to come back in his toes first. Now he is walking around. He will never be back to running, but he is 79. This happened to him around the age of 75.

Frustrating situation. Please make sure and include an endocrinologist on your wife's medical team. Best wishes.

Good article, medications do a ton of damage as well as kill. OA drugs got my GI tract, Steroids, Predisone, and Cortisones are forbidden for my 79 yr old Glaucoma husband, it drives up his eye pressures. 1 ten mg tab of Predisone will drive a 11 eye pressure to a 23 overnight. Fosamax caused a A Fib trip to the ER, all OP drugs are labeled for Jaw Degeneration, A Fib and A Typical Femur fracture, the 6 month shots are Black Boxed for Bone Cancer on top of the other side effects. That I can’t prove, hospital is closed, records lost. So does bad surgery. Glace Bay man with incurable condition can’t find a doctor https://www.capebretonpost.com/news/local/glace-bay-man-with-incurable-condition-cant-find-a-doctor-174052/

If Shannon lives beyond 50 it will be pure stubborn Scot in him, most kill themselves by Stage 2, he’s late Stage 3, ready to trip into Stage 4. BONE CANCER level pain.

"Pressure on the spine can cause numbness of the feet and legs."

I have something like that. I've had numb feet for years. It got so bad that I once stubbed my big toe so hard it split open and I never felt it. Then I read about the diabetes connection and went to the doctors for all kinds of tests. At the end the specialists were going down the wrong path checking for all kinds of things. It cost a lot of money only to find out I have no serious issues other than getting old. That will eventually kill me. Since I had eliminated all the things that could kill me before old age, I started looking on my own elsewhere. To make a long story short, my condition was greatly improved by using an inversion table to reduce the pressure on my spine. Although it didn't completely fix the issue, regular hangings made it more than 90% better. I can feel my feet and toes although there is some reduced feeling in spots. I suspect I have a back problem like a degenerating disc or a bone spur that is helped by hanging. Once that stops working, I will get it checked out by a real doctor. I don't want to go the surgery route until I absolutely need to.

The fact that some people abuse prescriptions does not make the doctor wrong

You want to go back to all natural ways??? Then get off the grid completely. Grow your own food and don’t use the internet

Modern advances have made our life expectancy greater than before
One can chose what health care they wish to use. That is not the job of anyone on this board

The Titanic was built by experts. The Ark was built by amateurs.

There is medical advise all over the internet and you’ll find tons of it here.

I adopted a child from Russia with recurring stomach pain. I communicated online with a man in Australia about a little known bad boy called Helicobacter Pylori, then asked our pedi to test her for it. She refused. I got the blood test done and had the positive results sent to her pedi who then apologized and wrote scripts for our entire family. The pharmacist literally screamed at us. H Pylori was not accepted yet by the medical field. It is now completely accepted and routinely tested for...

If I had not been able to communicate with Dr Marshall my daughter would likely have developed ulcers.

Grow up. Get over yourself.

I did redirect him. He said they were looking for sarcoidosis and that tells me they have ruled out many horses and are now hunting zebras.

94% of us have antibodies to the lectin in peanuts. How do you think that happened without injections? If you don’t know the answer to this then go educate yourself.

I can’t say it is easy, but like this author, we have experienced changes in our lives that are making it worthwhile.

We bought some inulin and Jerusalem artichoke capsules on Amazon.
Once we realized how great it felt we divested ourselves of high lectin foods like peanuts, peanut butter, corn, squash, tomatoes, and bought an instant pot to pressure cook what we could not give up - white potatoes, some beans, salsa.
We’re buying eggs from a local person instead of the store.
Still eating meat, cheese, and white rice. We have always used almond milk so that was already part of our lives. Eating as much fruit as we like currently. My husband still eats oatmeal but we switched to organic.

Amazon has lectin blockers as well for occasions when you eat them and want to keep your gut lining.
I am so impressed to hear of another doc talking about the gut. My intro to all of this came from a doc I was seeing.
Good luck.

Yes, avoid surgery unless it is the last resort.

How can anyone on this board force someone else's health care choice? You're funny! Those are opinions being expressed.

You're comment is old, but I just came across it and couldn't pass up responding to your nonsense.
