A harrowing police chase lasting nearly an hour ensued in South Florida on Thursday, ending in gunfire and as many as four people shot dead, according to law enforcement.
The dead included two robbers, a UPS driver whose truck they hijacked and a fourth person in a nearby vehicle, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Coral Gables police said it started with a robbery at Regent Jewelers at 386 Mile. Shots were fired and the two robbers jumped into the UPS truck and sped off, taking the delivery driver with them.
Once the UPS truck was boxed in, more shots were exchanged between law enforcement and the robbers in Miramar. At least one person from the truck was taken away from the scene in an ambulance and another inside the truck appeared to be wounded.
Miramar police tweeted that the heist ended in "multiple fatalities," but that no members of law enforcement died.

Too bad the UPS driver was not armed.
Jewel thieves so little chance even if he were.
But I agree he deserved to have that chance.
This story makes me sad. The dude was just trying to live his life and ends up dead. At least his family will get a payout from UPS since he was on the job as opposed to perhaps the other innocent person who was shot dead.
My same thoughts.
3 weeks from Christmas.
Now a life ended short and a family shattered.
But by all means cut down prison sentences.
Prayers out.
I saw that...The cops sent a barrage of bullets into the truck while the hostage was still inside...He’s dead...And an innocent lady with her vehicle stuck between the cop cars and the van was killed...But all ended well...No cops were injured in the melee...
Wrong. Just totally wrong, and I would argue unnecessary. Innocent people killed because the LEO’s decided to open fire.
Likelihood of UPS drivers death due to LEO bullet (s) .... 95%?
In situations like this it’s due to no leadership or bad leadership. I’ve seen this before when a pack of cops chase really bad guys. There can be dozens of officers involved with nobody in charge.
I don’t think they ever should have approached the truck in that situation. The bad guys had already fired shots during the robbery, and the truck was surrounded by innocent people and then there was the driver in the truck.

No shit. The UPS driver is in the vehicle appropriated by the criminals. Criminal gunfire going out. Law Enforcement gunfire going in.
Do you believe this is the first time innocent lives have been lost in violent criminal and law enforcement confrontations?
Hint, it has been the case for thousands of years. Had the police let them go the driver would have most likely been executed regardless.
They killed the person in the store they robbed. It’s highly unlikely that person didn’t comply. Most would comply in an attempt to preserve their life. So, they likely simply executed that person without a second thought.
UPS guy got screwed.
Whoa...This certainly didn’t end well.

That freeway was bumper to bumper jammed with people/vehicles...This was probably not a good time for cops to be bailing out of their vehicles and opening up on the suspects in the truck..I base this on the video seen here.

No, that's not the way it's supposed to work. You're supposed to avoid shooting innocent people at all costs even if it means holding back for a better chance in an effort to avoid shooting the innocent. Look at the video, one cop on the freeway was shooting right into cars crossing in front of his line of fire...
Too bad the bystander got out of bed that day.
Why didn’t the perps use the vehicle they arrived at the scene in?
Color me suspicious, but I’d rule out involvement by the dead UPS driver.
I sure as Hell would have been.
