A bill being considered by state legislators in Pennsylvania would require health care facilities to bury or cremate fetal remains after an abortion or miscarriage.
House Bill 1890, which was introduced by predominantly Republican group of lawmakers in September and passed by the GOP-led state House last week, is now being considered in the state Senate.
The bill, also known the Final Disposition of Fetal Remains Act, seeks to require health care facilities to bury or cremate the remains of a fetus after an abortion or miscarriage if they are not claimed by a parent for disposition.
Upon the fetal death of an unborn child, if a parent of the unborn child selects a location for the final disposition of the fetal remains other than a location that is usual and customary for a health care facility, the parent shall be responsible for the costs relating to the final disposition of the fetal remains, the bill also states.
The term fetal death is defined in the bill text as expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception which shows no evidence of life after the expulsion or extraction. A number of reports have noted that such language could also apply to fertilized eggs.
State Rep. Frank Ryan, who sponsored the legislation, told The Associated Press that wanted to craft something that was voluntary, that provided the family with the ability for closure, the ability to understand that a human life was lost, their life, that theyd been striving for for so long.
However, a number of Democratic legislators have come out against the legislation.
State Rep. Mary Isaacson (D) told the news agency that the bill presents a mandate, not a choice and labelled it as yet another attempt to harass abortion providers.
State Rep. Dan Frankel (D) also told AP that the people who treat patients and the patients themselves are telling us this bill is cruel, redundant and poorly drafted.
It will hurt families during a vulnerable time, she added.
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) has reportedly vowed to veto the legislation.
I live in Pennsylvania. Out Commie Governor will Veto the bill.
Unless it includes an age of gestation I think this bill would be very burdensome to women who suffer a miscarriage. Most miscarriages happen early in pregnancy and requiring cremation or burial does not make sense as “remains” may resemble a very heavy menses. Making a family go through the expense and planning for such remains may add to their stress.
I understand the idea is to give (deserved) respect to these aborted children, but I’m thinking many women may not have the funds to pay for the burials or cremations. What then? Jail or civic service for a few months to absorb the expense?
Of course Wolf will veto it. He’s a ghoul.
I guess it all depends on one's view of life and when it starts.
The city or state would probably pick up the tab.
The clinic will probably put it in the bill for the abortion and the women can’t get the abortion unless they prepay for it. The clinic is not going to pay for it, they’d rather sell the body for parts.
I would hate to be that Accountant or Government Auditor who has to review and examine how this year’s fiscal budget was impacted by such ‘facilities’.
It would probably go under ‘Miscellaneous One Time Expenses.’
HORRIBLE thought! I still do not understand how a woman could even think of murdering her own flesh and blood.
The accountant would, no doubt, put the abortion under "medical procedure."
In early abortions, you only have tiny fetal parts that are small enough to be sucked out via the cannula.
In later miscarriages (second trimester or third trimester miscarriages) you have a fetus. Often hospitals just incinerate the earlier fetuses in the furnace, which often upsets the moms, who are in active mourning for the baby. the funeral allows them closure for losing their baby.
In abortions after 14 weeks, the baby has hard bones: Often the abortionists take it apart in pieces (dangerous: this can lead to a perforated uterus). That is why often they abort the baby intact, after killing it with chemicals or by perforating the skull. If mom sees the baby, she gets upset, and often would want to bury it (often the mothers are in denial it is a baby until months or years after the abortion, but if they see the kid, it hits them right away).
forcing the moms to bury the kid would make them feel guilty.
which is why the pro aborts oppose it.
And you know why so many feminists push abortion? Because they are guilty inside, and are trying to punish those who point out that it was a kid they killed, and that there were alternatives. Better to hate the messenger than to repent.
And alas, many women do repent having abortions (often they are not thinking straight due to hormonal changes of pregnancy and often they are abandoned by spouse/boyfriend or even parents who pressure them to abort the kid).
Churches need to outreach to these women and tell them Jesus will forgive them. But most churches, even Catholic churches, won't preach about it for fear of losing members.
Sigh.
Passing this law would put a lot of “BABY SPARE PARTS” criminals OUT of that VERY PROFITABLE business.

I am totally opposed to induced abortion. And yes remains over a certain age of gestation should be treated as other bodies are at a health facility. They should not be handled as medical waste.
Thanks for explaining this. I did not know how to make my point about the need to exempt certain remains based on weeks of pregnancy.
They shouldn’t be handled as a spare parts factory either.
“The Hill”: “We’ll call dead babies “fetal remains” just as the Dem Psrty told us to.”
Indeed. And why there are not calls from on high in DC for a full investigation into these admitted practices is a puzzle to me.
Japan has legal abortion but that doesn't mean that women don't mourn their "lost" babies.
The Japanese women GRIEVE for their babies and it is quite strange that so many abortions occur when the women seem to want their babies. Their grieving is ritualized.
After abortion is finally re-criminalized, a lot of sickos will try to cover up abortion murder as miscarriages. It’ll be necessary at that point to do a through police investigation of every miscarriage claim.
In the meantime, “miscarriage” will be convenient excuse for those seeking to avoid paying for a burial. This Pennsylvania law could exempt true miscarriages from the burial or crematorium requirement. But there would have to be a way to confirm them.
