I think it’s kind of irresponsible to scare people with something so vague. This could be the result of many other conditions.

I’m currently being treated for neck/lung cancer. Fingers show as normal.

It’s no different than many other signs that can be a sign of a condition...like the lines on the ear lobe warning sign

Don’t be ridiculous. There are all kinds of signs in nails that Doctor’s look for. If you don’t like it, don’t do it.

The way I read this picture, it looks like the nails dont touch for “certain” types of lung cancers.

Correlation is not causality... nor is it even a remotely scientific way to determine anything.

These are the old signs and symptoms doctors relied on to diagnose people before we had in-depth imaging and lab studies. They can still be useful and people should learn them so they can do periodic tests maybe before serious complications occur.

I think we should rely on modern methods of diagnosing, instead of frightening countless people online with ‘signs’ that could indicate something far less worrisome or even innocuous.

Then why do doctors check your nails as part of a routine medical exam? Often serious medical conditions cause subtle or benign outward signs and symptoms. Hoffmann’s reflex is an example of a subtle change which can indicate a serious disorder.

I have liver cancer and my fingers seem normal. The doctors said I’d be gone in a year four years ago. Thank God I lived long enough to see Trump elected and hopefully long enough for a second term. But mainly to see my wife and family every new day.

COPD/emphysema are essentially the same thing and can cause clubbing as well as lung cancer can

Mine produce neither one of those shapes. Now what?

Might as well live a little and chuck the established wisdom.

I did do it. And I know that many changes in the body can present all sorts of ‘signs’ that don’t necessarily indicate a particular illness, or illness at all.

(My husband had an unfortunate experience with a chain saw when he was a kid, and some of his fingers and nails are all out-of-whack. I wouldn’t even ask him to do this.)
