Democratic Rep. Brenda Lawrence of Michigan now favors censuring President Trump after backing impeachment proceedings over allegations that he withheld military aid from Ukraine for his personal benefit.
Lawrence appeared on the Michigan radio show No BS News Hour with host Charlie LeDuff on Sunday to discuss the impeachment process in the House. Lawrence told LeDuff, to his surprise, that she does not support removing the president from office and that she would ask her caucus to censure him instead.
"We are so close to an election. I will tell you, sitting here knowing how divided this country is, I don't see the value of taking him out of office," Lawrence said. "I do see the value of putting down a marker saying his behavior is not acceptable."
Lawrence represents a heavily Democratic district that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won with a roughly 60% margin in the 2016 presidential election. The district has not been represented by a Republican since 1948.

A censure is the equivalent of the teacher sending a note home with you that you were naughty.

If you want to know how bad polling is for Democrats and the media on impeachment, the fact that no polling has been released by the media this past week or weekend should answer that question.
Ah! Perhaps “the word” has come down from the DNC to step back from an Impeachment Vote. These people may be evil but they are not entirely stupid.....sort of.
I hope you are right.
If they do censure, the media will incorporate “censure” into Trumps name for eternity, as a way of demeaning him. Despicable people.
I will respectfully disagree. I think they back down because Trump is the winningest president and that is the best outcome for him. He is not going to let history be written in that way.
What would they censure him for. Ridiculous!
She mentions how divided the country is. Who does she think is causing this division? They are.
What exactly does censure accomplish? What does it mean?
He might even respond to censure with more than a tweet. imagine a presidential proclamation of a do-nothing Congress or some other such designation.
It is even less than that. It's less than a "strongly worded letter". It is diddly squat.
The dems like to pretend they're in an European parliament where this sort of thing has meaning. Like their stupid "no confidence" attempt against AG Alberto Gonzales.

Maybe it’s the equivalent of taking your gold star down in kindergarten.
They are afraid of the Senate trial and what will come out. I think there are threats flying from both sides behind the scenes. Both sides have dirt (not necessarily on Trump, but on R’s+D’s) and are ready to use it. This is a political civil war we have not seen before, and we are in the danger zone.
If the Democrats impeach with no Republican votes in the House (and even lose a few Dem votes) they will look even worse after insisting impeachment should be a bipartisan thing.
Dems are doomed no matter what they do now, hopefully.
