Each version of Windows 10 adds new features and functionality; occasionally we also remove features and functionality, often because we've added a better option. Below are the details about the features and functionalities that are no longer being developed in Windows 10. For information about features that have been removed, see Features we removed.
The features described below are no longer being actively developed, and might be removed in a future update. Some features have been replaced with other features or functionality and some are now available from other sources.
The following list is subject to change and might not include every affected feature or functionality.
Dayglored's note: It's a long list in a table with descriptions. Click here to see the full table. A sampling:

I’m not a geek either. I had my son wipe and install Linux. He had to manually configure the settings but it was MS easy for me after that. I went with Zorin but would probably go with Linux Mint next time. MS left a bad taste in my mouth over the sneaky install and then it practically disabled my computer over time.
The OS had become a bloated mess because it tries to be more than an OS. If they could get downloads back to under a GB by losing stuff that should be standalone apps anyway it'd be a big help. If I have to factor download time into my bandwidth plan for a measly five computers, that's too much, and I certainly don't have to do that with Linux.
AFAIK, the offer to extend security updates for Win7 only applies to high-volume business customers with contractual support. It does not apply to individual customers (I.e. end-users)..
or was just unnecessary shite to begin with
Its not just Microsoft. My Mac has informed me that theres an update available for XCode (the Macs software development environment). Mind you, I have the previous version already installed this is just an update.
Over 7GB. For a flipping update.
Theyve all (except Linux) gone nuts.
I’m convinced that part of the issue is that the devs work in an environment where even the janitor has Gig-to-the-desktop and they don’t have to pay for bandwidth. And they have an IT department to do their backups and powder their bums for them.
My day job is in IT, BTW. I know exactly what you mean.
OTOH, at home (where I have XCode installed), Ive got 24Mbps DSL. 7GB takes longer than Im willing to wait.
I wish the one change they would make would be to kill Cortana and return the simple search feature minus Cortana and minus any implication of searching the web; which can be done in any browser, with the search engine default you’ve already chosen for your browser.
WINDOWS 10 FEATURES
Other Windows 10 features made obsolete include,
o Browsing the whole, entire web is now obsolete, replaced with the Tiny Web.
o Computer Memory is obsolete being replaced by sales spam pop ups.
o Clear, coherant user experience is now replaced with Common Core style confusion.
o USB Never Connect is a new feature.
Buy Windows 10 to get many new features. And just wait until you see Number 7 !!!
For the past week or so, my Toshiba laptop (WIN10) has been attempting to lad the latest update. I get the message getting windows ready don’t shut off your computer.
It stays in this state for a very long time.
Then, it tells me that updates couldn’t be completed and that the updates were being undone. This takes anther really long while.
Honestly, this is the first problem I’ve had with WIN 10.
Help...
” Then, it tells me that updates couldnt be completed and that the updates were being undone. This takes anther really long while. “
That’s what happens on my Win 7 desktop. Actually, the only reason I boot that system into Windows is to do updates, so now I don’t boot into Win at all.
Macrosloth Parasite 10 is in its entirety malware intentionally misrepresented as an operating system.
Sometimes I really miss MS-DOS. It never crashed, there was no “blue screen of death” and the only programs that I ever needed to run were Lotus 123 and WordPerfect.
OTOH, it was kind of a pain to have to load the operating system and the software from 5.25” floppy disks whenever I wanted to use my PC.
So, I won’t ever be able to download updates?
“So, I wont ever be able to download updates?”
Updates won’t exist to be downloaded. Win 7 will be dead in a few weeks.
I’m running Win10
Oh. Thought you were talking about 7. Sorry.
You can run MS-DOS in a VM (virtual machine). For example, I created a new VM (running under Linux, Mac, Windows, doesnt matter), and loaded the version of MS-DOS that came with Windows 98SE into the VM.
Not only does it run, it runs like the proverbial bat outta hell.
It accesses the hosts hard drive just fine, since it sees the hard drive as having a compatible file system on it (e.g. FAT32), which the VM host takes care of automatically.
So you could, if you want, run your Lotus and WordPerfect, just like in the old days.
Just sayin... :-)
Linux Mint will make it brand new and up to date with all the same capabilities.
“Theyve all (except Linux) gone nuts.”
I am elated to see this opinion my friend. It is exactly what I have been trying to share for a long time now and I know you see it too. I have great respect for you for sticking in there as you have. :)
