The incident occurred after the men went looking for a deer that one brother had shot earlier with a muzzle-loading rifle, reported the Ionia County Sheriff's Office on its Facebook page.

The shooter, a 29-year-old man from Saranac, told authorities that he believed he saw the deer moving and fired, but after firing realized he had struck his 28-year-old brother. He called 911 immediately for help and the two siblings walked out of the dense corn field where they were hunting and were met by first responders, reported ABC Grand Rapids affiliate, WZZM13.

Not even in Oregon. Or Kansas City. Hey, I worked hard on this one. Okay, so, not really all that hard, but it doesn’t stink. Well, alright, yes, it stinks...

I think I’ve own or have read that book - does he mention Synesthesia?

That’s always fascinated me...

I’m good with self sustainable land in the sticks and minimalism, own some. I would now live in a tent completely broke before I ever live in the mental institution of a city again. But there is a compromise that works well for both your environment and yourself. “Extremism” is the root of all evil in everything. You really can use it without insisting on completely destroying it based on bias prejudices. Respectful “multi-use” actually works well for both man and nature.

Why tear all your own trees out of your yard because you hate the concept of treehuggers? It would be ignorance and foolishness. But this is how strong the prejudices actually are. Just mention the keywords “nature”, “sustainable”, or “protect the environment” around here and you will get stoned. Conservatives are not allowed to compromise on things like that or they will be excommunicated. It always has to be one polar extreme or the other, compromising middle ground that works for both is taboo.

Funny that conservative farmers are very environmental oriented, and hunters were THE very first environmentalists...

I wear blaze camo I’ve taken somewhat over 30 deer. The last 20 with blaze camo vest The first 10 with regular blaze orange vest. I’ve spooked more deer with body stink and noise. I’ve had them stare in my direction with them not being able to pick me up visually unless I move. Orange is like white to them. Against dark woods it will spook them if you move but if your still it’s like a patch of snow to them.

If a deer runs I have run parallel to it. They can’t pick you up moving if they’re running. Stop when they stop.

I’ve stopped hunting for health reasons. I let my boys get my venison. One of them shot a fat doe yesterday.

I understand. I’m very concerned with keeping our environment healthy and being a good protector of it.

The problem is that ‘environmentalism’ has been so politicized, and used as an excuse to transfer wealth and weaken successful states like the US, in favor of backward ones.

People here have seen through that dishonesty, and often have a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction to anything labeled as ‘environmental concern’.

We have to stop being as ‘knee-jerk’ as our enemies are, and promote actual science that proves the enemies to be in the wrong.

This is what I have always done also, even in bow season. I don’t fear that the deer might see me, but I damned sure want to make sure other hunters see me. Ever hunted on horseback? You can walk right up to them because they think you are just another weird looking four legged animal. :)

Synesthesia is related to LSD use I think, but you may have hit it on the head.

I agree, the biggest problem I see is the polar extremism on both sides. There really is a middle ground compromise that will work for both sides and the environment too. but both sides refuse to even discuss it. It is all or nothing.

Next spring we are going to work on our 10 acres on the rim of the Grand canyon. But unlike city minded people we are not going to clear cut it. We bought it because we like being among those trees. So we will only clear needed “spots” in between the trees and live with and among them.

I enjoyed talking with you. :) But I have to hit the sack, been a long day and Grandma just got home from being out of town for two weeks beating on Grandkids. Please have a great evening! Maybe we can pick it up again tomorrow. :)

I think the earliest reports of synesthesia - muddy as they may be - greatly predated LSD use:

"a middle ground compromise that will work for both sides and the environment too. but both sides refuse to even discuss it. It is all or nothing."

I'm not sure that leftists see any 'middle ground'. They are the ones who are in it for 'all or nothing' - that's their way, because in most of their minds, this isn't a practical problem - it's an ideological one.

And that is why we have an impasse.

I'm sure it did, but LSD really hits the gas on that phenomenon.

I wouldn’t know - I’ve never experienced any hallucinogen. I was always afraid of stuff like that.

But I know that we are all unique in our perceptions of the ‘outside world’ - (I don’t even believe that it is ‘outside’ at all; everything we perceive is entirely subjectively perceived. I think we just manage to see enough of the same stuff, from the same rough perspective, to keep the world - and the illusion - going :-)

When my husband began learning to hunt with his Dad - at an even younger age than you

The youngest legal age for firearm deer hunting in Michigan is 14. Small game hunting is 11 and I was 11 when I started legal hunting, just with a shotgun and just for birds and rabbits.

Started shooting firearms at the age of six when I was allowed to shoot a 22LR rifle. My Dad, Uncle, and older brothers were always right by my side and made sure the rules of firearms safety were always followed. I never had to take a course but my Dad made me learn the NRA safety rules and I had to recite them without help or not be able to touch a firearm.

Some states don’t require that for muzzle loading or archery seasons.

I think my husband was 12, when he missed that buck. But he got a doe in the same year.

I think that doe was the last animal he killed. I don’t think he really liked hunting; but he and his father continued target shooting together until his dad died a few years ago.

(He really liked fishing with his father a lot more. I think if I gave my husband a fishing rod, he’d go off and happily leave me alone for many days :-)
