After 26 years, Rod Stewart finally lets the world see his breathtaking completed model railway (TR)

He has long been known as a model railway enthusiast — even if at times he didn’t want to talk about it.

But now Sir Rod Stewart’s legendary layout — 26 years in the making — can be seen for the first time in all its finished glory.

The rocker’s astonishingly detailed 124ft long x 23ft wide model depicting an American city and its industrial hinterland in the 1940s contains hundreds of buildings, from trackside switchman shanties to vast factories and skyscrapers.

Called Grand Street And Three Rivers City, it also features a railway station crossed by numerous bridges at rush hour. There are period cars and lorries as well, of course, as trains, and it is all surrounded by lush landscape and dramatically lit in the colours of late afternoon sunshine.

The only part of that show I ever liked.

John Astin was very good later in a few episodes of McMillan and Wife and Brisco County Jr.

I have a 400 sq ft unfinished room that I’d like to do some model railroading.

The previous pad simply didn’t have any space for much of anything.

I don't have one, what's your point?

Well then, what's your spectacular hobby? Ya' know, the one that puts this one to shame.

Mandatory Friday night viewing when it was a first run.

I’ve got the DVDs around here.

My wife never saw it until the DVDs. She loved the show and appreciated Bruce Campbell even more.

“Forever Young” is a wonderful song from Dad to his kids. I love it. Wiki: “ “Forever Young” to be one of his favourite songs and the reason for writing it was, “I love ‘Forever Young’, because that was a real heartfelt song about my kids. I suddenly realized I’d missed a good five years of Sean and Kimberly’s life because I was so busy touring all the time.”

I remember reading an interview with Rachael Hunter, Stewart's ex-wife. She said that she would be enticing Rod to come to bed, and she said something like: "But all he wanted to do was play with his bloody train set."
