He has long been known as a model railway enthusiast even if at times he didnt want to talk about it.
But now Sir Rod Stewarts legendary layout 26 years in the making can be seen for the first time in all its finished glory.
The rockers astonishingly detailed 124ft long x 23ft wide model depicting an American city and its industrial hinterland in the 1940s contains hundreds of buildings, from trackside switchman shanties to vast factories and skyscrapers.
Called Grand Street And Three Rivers City, it also features a railway station crossed by numerous bridges at rush hour. There are period cars and lorries as well, of course, as trains, and it is all surrounded by lush landscape and dramatically lit in the colours of late afternoon sunshine.

OMG. Watching that .gif screen-load in slow-mo and realizing what he’s holding, I’m like, “No! Don’t do it!!!”
That’s (to misquote Oddball) a mother beautiful train set.
I’m jealous. Guess I’ll have to get to work on mine now. :P
Lol! Me,too! Thanks for the video of him crashing the train. I am STILL LMAO!!
I don't have one, what's your point?

Everything pretty correct, except the missing columns a black smoke and the fake clear atmosphere...
Nevertheless, I love it... Takes me back to the days, between 1940 & 1943, when our neighborhood guys (ages 7-11) used to hop the slow-moving Boston & Maine coal trains and ride them for about 7-miles before they got to where they could pick up speed...
Then we’d hike back along the tracks for about 3-miles picking up coal for our houses... In those dark days (after Dec 1941) of no money, rationing, air raids, and Western Union constantly delivering the announcements to most of the neighborhood families about their men dying or missing, not too many adults hassled us about riding coal trains..
It's in a converted warehouse building. More than 100 trains running simultaneously on 8 MILES of track.
He should have been arrested for releasing that song, that and hot legs constitute a double homicide. Now gasoline alley and forever youngon the other hand...
Are the dimensions 124ft long x 23ft wide really that spectacular?
—
As many HO-scale layouts are 4 ft by 8 ft, yup this is one huge layout.
124ft is more than 1/3 of a football field (300 ft or 100 yds goal to goal)
So 124 would take you from one goal to jut past the 41 yard line.
23 ft would be about the 8 yard line wide.
That’s pretty darn big.
He said his father had once given him the advice that every man needs a hobby.

I guess he took his Dad’s advice to heart!
For a private collector I guess that's pretty big............
See the post above yours, #54.......
Dang, we must be neighbors. Thats about 5 miles down 202S from me.
His layout has been featured in Model Railroader a couple of times but I guess it wasnt finished. Rumor has it his divorce from Rachel Hunter was caused in part because he preferred time with his trains to time with his wife!
That,my friend is a story that should be told!
