Todays Cryptogram
U LZYPG GVMUWV, UW CNUVM, EAV SZVENT ZM LZNGI RI EAV NATEABUJRP JNVREUZW ZM CVRYET. VGQRN RPPRW SZV
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
THE IN THING NOW IS TO SCROLL DOWN TO MAGNUM44S HELPFUL HINT BEFORE YOU SOLVE THE PUZZLE.
Solution to our last puzzle:
THE ACTIVIST IS NOT THE MAN WHO SAYS THE RIVER IS DIRTY. THE ACTIVIST IS THE MAN WHO CLEANS UP THE RIVER. ROSS PEROT
About 2 min. Getting the author led me to the solution.
Baltimore 49, Cincinnati 13
Whisper it: I think the author is wildly overrated and overemphasized in education. He had the advantage of matriculating at a time when provincialism caused the average to be treated as superior and lasting.
huh?
That clue made it too obvious for me.
Q) What do you call people who practice the rhythm method?
A) Parents.
Me too. Nevermore.
I hate the Ravens.
clever
And as always:
ZFIVZGE PGPE’V JGXX YGQIZXK
But dont fear them
I don’t know how, but I recognized the name immediately and just filled it in as fast as I could click. I forget his penchant for beauty. I usually remember him in terms of ... creepier things.
About five minutes. I fumbled until I recognized the author’s name. Five minutes, nevermore.
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love
I and my Annabel Lee
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
Went envying her and me
Yes!that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we
Of many far wiser than we
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darlingmy darlingmy life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
The English language was much more eloquent back in his day. Grammar is no longer being taught in school!
