Yeah I got an 8gb ASUS and it works very well for what I need.

I’ve bough used desktops. And I STOPPED. Refurbished or not, they NEVER last that long AT ALL.

And what is linux anyway? I need to know after hearing about it for more than 20 years :)

Yeah, it's an open source, community OS based on Ubuntu or Debian. It dates way back to the old Unix code from ages ago. It was developed as an alternative to iOS and Windows. There have been so many versions of Linux out there over the years, I couldn't begin to count them all. I used to have machines running Red Hat, Xandros, SUSE, Mandriva, and a few others. WARNING: While Linux has become so user-friendly it's practically plug-n-play, it's like going from a Southern redneck slur to an upper-crust British lilt. Or a thick Scottish burr. Thanks for the heads up on refurb desktops. I’m still a desktop man for power computing and extensive word processing. They seem to be good for about 4 years. These prices aren’t much more than the new copy of Windows 10. For mobile computing I’ve gone completely over to a 12.6 in I-pad. I keep a cheap external keyboard in my briefcase. $20 on amazon and it works fine. The same thing from Apple costs$150.

Ah, just get yourself on old, cheap PC (desktop or laptop, it does’t matter - unlike other operating systems, Linux doesn’t require hardware like a flamethrower), download the OS to a flash drive from the Mint homepage (it’s a free OS, unlike Mac or Windows), and follow the bouncing ball on the install/how-to page. It’ll be a good time-waster on a rainy evening, instead of streaming something on Nextflix, and you’ll pick it up at about the same pace as Mac iOS, but there’s a bazillion more apps out there, and it’s fun. Plus you’ll staand out in a crowd. LOL

Actually, if you do decide to play mad scientist with Linux, download Mint (the Cinnamon x64 .iso) onto your existing computer, then go to MajorGeeks.com, and download a little program called Rufus. It'll format your flash drive to be a bootable device, and it'll write the Linux .iso file to the flash drive. Just go into the machine BIOS and set the USB port as your first boot device.

(Was playing phone games last weekend on my 70” HDTV, was fun, but heck on the battery. A BT mouse and keyboard just might make the thing even more fun and battery draining)

Your right, it is sort of quaint in it's own way. While using the rig, I keep the IPhone on it's charger and set to Never Autolock. The batteries in the keyboard and mouse are suppose to last for at least a year and do power down automatically without use.

It was an exercise for this old computer geek; an investigation to see what was possible. And I find it is to my liking. No Excel expenses. Shared "Numbers" App free andthe budget real time on the icloud with the wife rather than email and copying them.

Besides, the Iphone Pictures and Videos look great on my 55" 4K curved screen.

What the young do play with these days. Utterly Amazing.
