To understand communism, its important to look at the man who was the first to institute a government dedicated to Karl Marxs ideals: Vladimir Lenin.
When I was in college, I recall a conversation with several classmates who joked about throwing a get-together and naming it The Communist Party. They mocked the idea that anyone would fear this supposedly well-meaning ideology.
I wonder if they would have been laughing if they were in the presence of gulag survivors.
This Nov. 7 marks the 102nd anniversary of Lenins rise to power in Russia, and Nov. 9 will mark the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the symbol of tyranny built by the regime he forged.
Victor Sebestyens 2017 biography on Leninthe first major biography of the Soviet leader to hit Western bookshelves in two decadesdocuments his many crimes against humanity.
Lenins streak of cruelty began long before he came to power. By his early 20s, his zealous dedication to Marxism led him to believe that anything justified revolution.
Cruelty Without a Conscience
When a famine broke out in the Volga region in 1891one that would kill 400,000 peopleLenin welcomed the event, hoping that it would topple the Czarist regime. His sisters, dedicated revolutionaries themselves, assisted with relief efforts for the starving and were shocked by his callous refusal to help.
Later, in 1905, when Czarist forces killed hundreds of striking workers and 86 children in Moscow, Lenin refused to mourn for the dead and, instead, hoped the event would further enflame class antagonisms. In his eyes, human lives were expendable in the pursuit of the workers paradise.

I believe it was Ben Stein who said the only Marxist-Leninists you’ll find in America are BMW-driving graduate students
human lives are expendable in the pursuit of the workers paradise. Current belief system of the dimrat party.
Wonder what the response would be if an angry vet were to bow that abomination to hell with some C-4?
Aw, come on now.
He was just an austere political scholar.
Wow. A lot there I didn’t know.
Knew NONE of the sculptures.
Thanks
Lenin and Co were part of this crowd.
I agree. You still hear people claim that communism would have worked if Lenin hadn't died. I think Lenin died before people could see how big an asshole he was.
Only it wasn’t called the “Communist Party” at the time, it was the rather innocuous, “Russian Social Democratic Labour Party”.
One of my all-time favorite movies.
That and, "The Lives of Others"
Or if Trotsky replaced him, instead of Stalin.
You forgot their Birkenstocks
Lenin was that you’d call a trust-fund kid nowadays. Spent hald of his life ‘studying’ abroad but factually at pubs with alikes exercising in demagoguery and Marxist scholasticism over a mug of beer. He hated his own country and regular folks and while rather charismatic lacked as a leader. That is why Stalin took over. Stalin was a regular gangster who met commies in prison and immediately befriended them out of lust for power, realizing their destabilizing potential. After commies took over he organized a Mafia-like structure within the state and wiped out Lenin and Co.
