Box Office: 'Terminator: Dark Fate' Bombs With $29M U.S. Debut

Talk about complete concept rejection.

Skydance, Fox and Paramount's Terminator: Dark Fate reboot — hoping to revive the franchise after three failed attempts — bombed in its domestic box office debut with $29 million from 4,086 theaters, well behind expectations.

Not even the return of James Cameron in the producer's chair and original series stars Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger could spark interest among many fans and the general moviegoing public.

Nor is the movie likely to be rescued by the foreign box office, where it finished Sunday with a foreign tally of $94.6 million, including a lackluster China debut of $28 million, and global total of $123.6 million.

A direct sequel to Cameron's Terminator: Judgment Day (1991), the R-rated Dark Fate is directed by Deadpool helmer Tim Miller and cost a hefty $185 million to produce before marketing. Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna and Diego Boneta also star.

Wait a few months and rent it at Redbox...Make your own popcorn...If the movie sucks you’re out a couple bucks...

And if you need a bathroom break, or a cell phone rings during the movie it’s yours, and there’s always “Pause”...

Men do not want to see female superheroes with broom stick size arms beating crap pout of Spetnatz style of men even if they are a robot and the women want to see masculine men dripping with testosterone kicking butt.

Pretty much figured it sucked after seeing the decades old cliché of the “three point body landing position, head slowly looking up” thing, in the trailer. Gaggggggggg!

The series should have ended after T2 (Though I thought T3 was very good, and it had a female villain).

How many times can you go back in time to prevent what's going to happen in the future? The franchise violates all kinds of space-time conundrum rules and things.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles was good, in my opinion, but the series only lasted a year. People are maybe just tired of the concept. Ironically, the basic premise of the concept is becoming more of a potential future concern.

After a year or so, you can see the movie on TV...

I wonder, obviously it didn't occur to them. Their likely audience (read: middle aged) generally waits until movies appear on TV. Especially if you're paying for HBO.

For waht the tickets cost and the cost of concessions

You know, I went to see Joker at a matinee, thinking it would be cheaper. It was only $1 cheaper than the evening showings.

A 12-oz soda and junior popcorn (the smallest they have), together was close to $10.

I loved 7 Days.

Dr. Who and continuity have never really gone together.

The sad part is James Cameron is responsible for two of the most genuinely badass female action heroes of all time; Alien 2’s Ellen Ripley and Terminator 2’s Sarah Connor. He did this when being “woke” wasn’t a requirement and the end result with these characters felt exciting and genuine to moviegoers. These days, “wokeness” is a check in the box and viewers can see right through it. It comes out as pandering and condescending.

Well said!

Ouch. Gonna see it this week. Getting pretty solid reviews, too many bad entries I killed it.
