The NCAA's Board of Governors voted unanimously Tuesday to permit college athletes the opportunity to benefit from the use of their names, images and likenesses "in a manner consistent with the collegiate model," the organization announced.
“We must embrace change to provide the best possible experience for college athletes,” board chair Michael V. Drake, president of Ohio State University, said in a statement. “Additional flexibility in this area can and must continue to support college sports as a part of higher education.

Don’t know. NCAA didn’t used to be so anal. And they might have excepted him for it being a different sport. Either way it’s just more proof the rules are silly.
There’s one of those small (but academically stellar) schools right across the river from me.
It’s still a treat to watch kids play for nothing more than love of the game, whether a scholarship is involved or not.
Even though I’m a PSU alum and still rather hooked on following them, academics has always been priority one there,
and last I heard the graduation rate was one of the best in the country among large universities/athletes.

And the money the athletic programs make from these kids’ skills helps pay for the scholarships awarded in non-revenue sports that largely go to well off white kids who would likely not get accepted otherwise.
They are getting paid by receiving scholarships that put them through college!!!!!

Are “Big State & Big Name U’s” academic institutions with football & basketball attached or minor league sports businesses with academic institutions buried somewhere in the background?

So if they get paid will they instantly become professional athletes by definition?
Will the money be instantly available to students in real time, or will it be used to pay for their education, insurance, and a small stipend for spending monies beyond the what is reasonable, e.g., the money available to those who get student loans?
How will this affect the Olympics, or has that boat already sailed?
Will the colleges be reimbursed on a cost share basis simply because the tax payers are creating the infrastructure by and large, thus should some money be put back into the Tax Payers pockets by alleviating some of the taxation expense for education in general from the monies collected thru taxation?
I think the NCAA has managed to help a few big time programs by listening to those schools in constant (currently) contention by the big post season money.
Small school players will get recognition that otherwise might not happen today - thus a Div II player might actually deserve and win the Heisman, oh YEA!
If states are going to give money to the kids, why not at the same time each state should build a series of Stadiums geographically and accessible time wise to all Taxpayer funded colleges thus lessening the impact and recruiting advantage of Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama
, etc. By creating infrastructure for all students regardless of the size of institution, all can have access to state funded facilities - and by extension the creation of jobs, educational opportunities in medical services, management, etc.
Why should only the big schools deserve the recognition?

GOD ..... that is too long.
And as you mentioned, without the 19 runs scored in that game. Yes, the games today are too long by about an hour.
