DES MOINES — Matthew Hunt’s pledge to support a presidential candidate started with a sign.
Not a mystic apparition from above, but an actual billboard on Eisenhower Avenue in Mason City, where he saw a face and a name in bright red letters: “Tulsi.”
“Let’s not kid around: I thought she was attractive, so I looked her up on Facebook,” said Hunt, a 53-year-old service technician. That led him to learn about Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s antiwar stance, her military experience and, more recently, her public spat with 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. When he heard Gabbard (D-Hawaii) talk about the importance of living “Aloha” at a recent campaign event, he decided to throw his support to a woman on the fringes of Democratic politics.
“Tulsi comes out with her message of peace, sitting around and talking to people like adults and sitting at the table with everyone,” Hunt said. “I have a 17-year-old son. He’s never seen a year of peace.”
While the top tier of presidential candidates is building robust operations with field offices and strategists in Iowa to boost poll numbers and build momentum, Gabbard’s campaign is banking on something a little different: prolifically posting signs.
In major parts of the state, Gabbard’s image is more visible than any other Democratic candidate’s. There are billboards along highways in Dubuque and Davenport. They appear near a Walmart in Mason City and over a Pueblo Viejo restaurant in Des Moines.
There are yard signs placed on homes with peeling paint, overflowing trash and windows covered in cardboard. There are signs in yards near the state fairgrounds, including one surrounded by a Halloween-ready graveyard of cardboard tombstones and cobwebs.

There are also similar signs/billboards like this around NH.
We citizens of NH and IA get bombarded with ads, phone calls from polling companies, etc. All because we have the first in the nation primary & caucus.
The worst are the cell phone calls with the same area code and prefix as your own cell number. That way you answer because you think it is a local call.
Despite this and a complexion that could rival a gravel quarry, she’s HOT!!!

Agrees. She’s equally a communist, just more polite in public.
That said, where is her money coming from? I’ve been seeing billboards all over the place in the South for her for months now.
You’d think she could have some kind of treatment for that - it really is the first thing you notice when you see her up close.
I don’t like the way she plays up her military background so much. Millions of Americans have served.
She put’s on her billboard, “A Soldier’s Heart”.
I’d rather see “A Free Man’s Defiance to Keep his Paycheck”.
I’m not sorry for saying the following, Iowa must have the absolute dumbest electorate in the union. Dumb with a capital D. It’s obvious to everyone outside of Iowa how the rats use the people there every 4 years, but somehow Iowans themselves continually get starstruck by elitist dimbulbs pretending to grill steaks and drink beer. It’s embarrassing to watch.
Military background:
Tend to forget this aspect. The fact she’s a demoncrat defeats that positive. No military, in good faith, can propose to be a liberal. She does have a few more brain cells than most, but she is a member of the hive - just not the Queen Bee. d’rat party will envelope her and will soon morph her into what they envision.

She can’t really stand on her ideas. She’s posing, pretending her military background will hide other things.
