In a video posted online, an eight-year-old girl clambers up a replica of the border wall that U.S. President Donald Trump has called "virtually impenetrable."
Mom Karla Hancock posted a video of little Lucy Hancock scaling a wooden wall model in Kentucky, ahead of a border-wall climbing competition there next weekend.
As she climbs up the wall, Lucy wears a belay, a safety harness designed to catch a falling climber.
"We were able to help perform preliminary testing of the belay system this weekend," Karla wrote on Facebook on Sunday, Oct. 6.
"Lucy declared it an easy 5.7 with a tough dyno finish." A dyno is when a climber makes a dynamic move using momentum to get to the next hold.
The imitation wall is the brainchild of rock climbing veteran Rick Weber, 75, who was spurred on by claims from the president last month that "20 mountain climbers" had tested the wall 'and we gave them different prototypes of walls, and this was the one that was hardest to climb."
"No one in our climbing community knows any of these 20 mountaineers. I doubt if they exist," Weber wrote in climbing magazine "Rock and Ice."
"The configuration and design is dimensionally identical to the 18-foot version of the bollard wall (vertical steel square columns) now being erected along our southern border," the retired engineer wrote.
"With volunteer help from a few climber friends, I built and erected the section of wall over a four day period."
Weber says an adult climber, Erik Kloeker, was up and over the wall in about 40 seconds.
Weber is hosting the wall-climbing competition on his land in eastern Kentucky this weekend with a prize for the fastest climbers.
(This is a joke of a "wall replica" made with just four WOODEN bollards (which are easier to grip than steel) and all of just four feet wide, including the top PLYWOOD barrier (again, easier to grip than smooth, either too hot or too cold metal). This replica allows climbers to wrap their fingers and get a grip around the solid barrier for purchase and pull themselves up, hand-over-hand, and get to the top at the side which doesnt exist on the continuous real wall, which on the replica deliberately defeats the designs impassable "barrier" intent, showing what a fraud this "easily climbed by an 8 year-old" claim is. The real border wall barrier section has no breaks, gaps, holes, or other obvious means of putting ones fingers around it to gain a purchase or grip-hold to lever ones self up. . . or is there a safety belay attached five feet above the wall, catching a climber to provide a bit of rest or leverage. Video on site. . . Sorry no direct link to the video. . .
6th grader media nerds still think they own the lunchroom.
First cross the moat with alligators and snakes, LMAO!
They’ve got jetpacks. No need to climb.
Maybe they should put broken glass on top like the walls around houses in Mexico have.
Fake Climb Alert!
Sheesh...shes not climbing. theyre hoisting her up.
If climbing these walls becomes a problem I suggest setting up a mobile sprayer system to dispense pig fat to the wall.
Let the 8 year old have a go at that.
OTOH the wall does seem vulnerable to rope ladders with hooks. Or solid wooden or steel (heavy) ladders. I wonder how well that threat has been thought through.
She’ll only do that once. For reals! ;)
Why is she wearing a safety harness to complete this task? Does she think illegals will be wearing them too? Watched the video, and if she wasn’t wearing that harness, she’d have fallen off more than one time, because her feet lost their grip several times, and she leaned back with the harness on, removing her right hand to shake out a cramp. Then if I saw correctly, she grasps the harness rope, and pulls herself up, then swung over to the right, near the top of the fake wall. Video doesn’t prove anything other than you can climb a model wall if you’re wearing a safety harness to prevent your ass from falling off it.
“Weber is hosting the wall-climbing competition on his land in eastern Kentucky this weekend with a prize for the fastest climbers.”
What’s the prize? A one-way ticket to Tijuana?
Lucy’s loser parents must be so proud of this stunt.
Losers.
This is so bad, you can see they could never climb it without a grapple and if I remember right there is an antigrapple their wall is missing as well
it is rounded at the top to prevent you from grabbing it or putting a grapple on it
the lefts motto,
They will supply any lie on any day about anything.
I just rewatched the video and I counted seven times where Lucy relied on the safety harness to support her climb. . . and at the final moment she twice used the safety harness rope to pull herself up onto the top.
I also like how they claim they say they dont recognize the people the government used in testing the wall sections who said they had the most trouble getting over it. These people didnt recognize the testers who made these claims from their climbing magazines and climbing sport community, so they conclude they must be fakes. Did they fail to notice where it said the various wall samples were tested by Navy Seal teams and Special Forces members with special training, not sport climbers, i.e. trained mission specialists who Id bet have better climbing skills than weekend rock climbers. This design was found to be the most difficult to scale.
I know one of those guys whose idea of fun was free climbing sheer rock walls with no ropes. I saw a picture of him once hanging from a 90° horizontal rock jutting straight out over a thousand foot drop, working his way toward the equally sheer straight up rock face, which he intended to climb, with just his fingers stuck in cracks in the rock. He did this with a little bag of specialized clamps and rosin for his hands and shoes with toes. He once taught cadets at the academy how to do it. His dad was one of my clients. Hes now an eye surgeon, but still goes free climbing every chance he gets. I doubt hed try this; no cracks.
“I built and erected the section of wall over a four day period.”
If the climber was sincere about getting a better wall for the border, then he would be more careful about his model wall. The current model is frail.
Anchor. Any kid can climb a wall with both an anchor and a belayer.
Problem. Where is the anchor on Trump’s wall? I do not think there is one.
Trump’s wall is very cool.
The steel on Trumps wall in a 100+ degrees weather that steel will be untouchable!!!!
now heat it to 190 degrees and close up that cow width bollard spacing
Thanks to the little girl, we now know the fence needs to be wired and the attempted invaders need to be electrocuted.
