After letting its staff go in June, the station itself is gone as of today. Another bit of evidence that left wing s--t presented by our domestic enemies no longer sells.
Was it a democrat station?
They have no supporters, but win elections. How does that work?
The man in the black suit, black hat, and dark glasses who will shortly knock on your door will explain everything to you.
Whatever happened to me Air America, liberal talk radio?
re: “Was it a democrat station?”
JUST LIKE “Air America Radio Network”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_America_%28radio_network%29
Air America (formerly Air America Radio and Air America Media) was an American radio network specializing in progressive talk radio. It was on the air from March 2004 to January 2010.
The network featured programs with monologues by on-air personalities, guest interviews, call-ins from listeners, and news reports. Several shows had million plus audiences, and multiple weekday presenters continued on in radio, television, or politics after their time on Air America. For example, in 2008, The Thom Hartmann Program had 1.52 million unique listeners a week and The Lionel Show had 1.51.75 million unique listeners a week.[1][2] Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Mike Malloy later had shows on other radio networks. Marc Maron started his” WTF podcast” by trespassing in Air America’s studios after the network’s demise, before moving to Los Angeles. Al Franken went from his show to the United States Senate, and Rachel Maddow moved her show to television on the MSNBC network.
The network was financially troubled, however. A scandal involving nearly $1 million in loans from a Boys & Girls Club in New York secretly transacted by Evan Cohen came out in 2005 and was a source of negative publicity. The loans were repaid, but in October 2006, mounting debts forced Air America Radio to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company was bought by New York real estate investor Stephen L. Green and his brother Mark J. Green, who purchased the network in March 2007 for US$4.25 million.[3][4]
The company eventually changed its name from Air America Radio to Air America Media and lastly to just Air America, an effort to establish itself as a broadcaster on multiple media sources including television and the Internet, and one not merely relegated to radio. Always primarily a radio network, on January 21, 2010, Air America went off the air citing difficulties with the current economic environment. It filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and liquidated itself. Bennett Zier was the company’s last CEO including through the bankruptcy and liquidation.
I guess WBAI, a dyed-in-the-wool Communist nest since the 1960s, couldn't survive having CNN, NBS, CBS, and everyone else take over their part of the spectrum of ideas. Which actually originated with Lenin and was perfected by Pravda.
I believe progressive media fails because they do not care about monetizing their message (profit). Instead they weaponize their message.
Err America died from basically the same thing: poor ratings. Nobody wants to listen to one radio mouthpiece after another, scolding and berating them, declaring the end is nigh, and generally pissing and moaning about the state of the country. The ones who did survive have two hour slots on some liberal Siruis/XM radio channel; the rest are working for activist ‘non-profits’ or stocking shelves at Target.
Pacifica has a handful of stations scattered in a few large leftist cities. It is further left than the MSM, and never had a large audience.
I hope that the remaining Pacifica stations fold soon, as well.
Air America got caught siphoning funds from the Boys and Girls Club in NYC...
I used to listen to some of that on occasion.
It was like a blend of pure comedy gold and Firesign Theater.
ALWAYS good for a laugh.
.
now she'll REALLY be whining!!!
Second, every now and then they would have some really interesting programming. They had a hacker radio show that was a really good source of information on technology. They had vitamin guy Gary Null who would have some really good information amidst some really wacky ideas.
Third, just when you think the right is screwed up, you'd hear the ultra leftist hosts and management having all sorts of infighting and air their dirty laundry. It was like Life of Brian.
RIP WBAI.
At least WBAI was honest about where it stood. And some of their kooky programming was rather entertaining, like nutritionist Gary Null and the late Al (Grandpa Munster) Lewis, who never hid his communist leanings.
Famed for running the George Carlin
“Filthy Words” bit that had those
“Seven Dirty Words”.Man who was
listening with his son, on a
Sunday morning, complained.
Sister station KPFA Berkeley CA ran long running sound collage show Over the Edge featuring Negativland and the late Don Joyce.
Al Franken did his show from Boston in ‘04, wanting to be in on the celebration when John Kerry was to be elected President.
Instead those tuning in, days after the election, got to hear the likes of drowsy Franken sounding like they’d been awakened in the middle of the night...claiming Bush stole the election.
true story...when they would have their fundraisers i would stay in the office a little later than usual then go from phone to phone and dial the BAI number in order to tie up the lines...i would use six of seven phones...i could here the people getting pissed on the other end...
Bravo! Bravissimo!
