The Great Peacemaker, whose name means "Two River Currents Flowing Together" and is sometimes referred to as Deganawida, was an Iroquois Prophet who convinced five warring Indian tribes to join in peace.
He prophesied that a "white serpent" would come to his people's lands and make friends with them, only to deceive them later.
A "red serpent" would later make war against the "white serpent."
After a season, a "black serpent" would come and defeat both the "white" and "red serpents".
According to the prophecy, when the people gathered under the elm tree become humble, all three "serpents" would be blinded by a light many times brighter than the sun. Deganawidah said that he would be that light.
This prophecy was 41 years before Columbus..
Where is the “It was aliens” picture?
(Maybe they were channeling David Icke.) ;-)
Breaking news
How do we know this?
They smokum wacky weed.
“He prophesied that a “white serpent” would come to his people’s lands and make friends with them, only to deceive them later.”
We now call the white serpent a democrat.
“Why does it always have to be snakes?”
What is the Great Law of Peace?
The Great Law is the founding constitution of the Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy. It is an oral tradition, codified in a series of wampum belts now held by the Onondaga Nation. It defines the functions of the Grand Council and how the native nations can resolve disputes between themselves and maintain peace.
The hardest part of the Great Law is to understand the meaning of the concept of peace. Peace is not simply the absence of war. In the Iroquoian mind, peace is a state of mind. Power, which can easily be thought of as military strength, but more appropriately, it means that one heart, one mind, one head, and one body allowed the Confederacy to remain united in the face of many enemies. Certainly, historians have painted a picture of the Iroquois as cruel expansionists.
Iroquois fighting power was legendary. So the question arises: how can the Great Law promote peace if one of the conditions is to have power over weaker nations? Power can be the united strength of the Confederacy, standing together, negotiating together. Unity of action allowed the Iroquois to enjoy great success in dealing with the warring colonial powers.
Snakes represent the spirit or soul of s person just as it does in the medical insignia.
The great hero eater, whose name was Fatsonato (he who eats too much) predicted that one day gyros and goat meat would replace meatball and chicken parmigiana heroes as the basic food staple of the Italianeta (pronounced “Italian eater”) tribe.
Later on a group of devils called the Toodarktoseeyas, whose prime staples were corn bread and fried chicken would combine with MusliEuros, who REALLY hated pork, to attack and defeat the Italianetas.
Only the Barbequeguntotas from down south would be able to save the Italianetas.
Prophesy says it’ll get back to me in 4 years.
LOL.... From 1451 so I put it in “General Chat.”
The Three Principles of the Great Law
The Great Law brings together three inter-related concepts, that if properly implemented would assure peace among the member nations of the Confederacy. Together these principles make up the underlying beliefs that will unite humans.
RIGHTEOUSNESS
First is the Concept of Righteousness:
In order to keep violence from interfering in the stability of the community, the people, clans, Chiefs, Clan Mothers and the entire nation must treat each other fairly. Such conduct will assure that political and social justice is maintained. Each individual must have a strong sense of justice, must treat people as equals and must enjoy equal protection under the Great Law. People must be willing to enforce a civil government to oversee that righteousness is enjoyed by all; must shape their own personal conduct so as not to foster resentment or hatred; and must be willing to use the power of reasonable thinking to overcome problems and arrive a mutually beneficial resolution.
HEALTH
The Second Concept is Health:
Health means that the soundness of mind, body and spirit will create a strong individual. Health is also the peacefulness that results when a strong mind uses its rational power to promote well-being between peoples, between nations.
POWER
The Third is the Concept of Power:
The laws of the Great Law provide authority, tradition and stability if properly respected in thought and action. Power comes from the united actions of the people operating under one law, with one mind, one heart, and one body. Such power can assure that justice and healthfulness continue. People and nations need to exercise just enough power to maintain the peace and well-being of the members of the Confederacy.
Waaaaaay over your head.
Movie quote.
Indiana Jones.
Why would anyone, other than ‘new age hippies’, believe such stuff? And since the 5 tribes had no written language, how was this incredibly vague “prophesy” passed down? No one even knows if this “person” existed outside of Iroquois legend.
Our U.S. Government was modeled after the Iroquois Confederacy. But they forgot the “Sachems” or “Peace Chiefs.”
Most of the Bible was also not written down when the events happened.
In the French and Indian War, the Cherokees allied against the British side (our side). During the American Revolutionary War, the Cherokees were allies of the British (our enemies). During the War of 1812, the Cherokees were allied with the British (our enemies). Three time losers. We drove the Tories out of the US. They went to Canada or to West Florida, the Cherokees got to stay in the US. They paid a price for their decisions, but now all of the bills are marked paid
