President Trump is a threat to the First Amendment, says the New York Times, while repeatedly running op-eds arguing against the First Amendment.
Its current masterpiece is, Free Speech is Killing Us.
Its innovative argument notes that ideas can lead to violence. Well then, if we're going to stop violence, we have to shut down the flow of ideas until we figure out what's going on here, right?
In 2019, this is what the New York Times has come up with.
Noxious speech is causing tangible harm. Yet this fact implies a question so uncomfortable that many of us go to great lengths to avoid asking it. Namely, what should we — the government, private companies or individual citizens — be doing about it?
Oh lots of people have no problem asking it. Nazis, Communists, assorted other well-wishers who want a totalitarian state.
The Founders were not unaware of the simple reality that bad actions can begin with bad speech. Their solution wasn't mass censorship and thought control. It says something about the degeneracy of liberals into leftist that this is the New York Times solution.

The media wants to control speech.
Well I don’t believe it is, but if the Sulzbergers are that sure then we can shut down the New York Times for a trial decade and see if New York dies.
If noxious speech can cause harm, they should shut down CNN and MSNBC right away. They are NOTHING but noxious speech.
There needs to be a three day waiting period to buy a New York Times paper.
There needs to be a three day waiting period to buy a New York Times paper.
How about we "evolve" the 5th, 6th and 8th? Then, we can find them guilty at 2am, arrest them at 3am, and start torturing they and their family to death by dawn?
Is that "evolved" enough?
I agree that America would be a better place if the New York Times was suppressed, but as a prudential matter, I wouldn’t want to start down that slippery slope.
Pretty soon, free speech will only be exercised by The People through the establishment media in the same way that some claim that The Peoples Second Amendment tights can only be exercised through the National Guard.
The final PPh tells us how stupid and dangerous this author is:
>>In one of our conversations, Mr. Powell compared harmful speech to carbon pollution: People are allowed to drive cars. But the government can regulate greenhouse emissions, the private sector can transition to renewable energy sources, civic groups can promote public transportation and cities can build sea walls to prepare for rising ocean levels. We could choose to reduce all of that to a simple dictate: Everyone should be allowed to drive a car, and thats that. But doing so wouldnt stop the waters from rising around us.<<
Wrong on the analogy — speech can not be linked to anything except the receiver’s perception. Wrong on oceans rising from driving cars (we have yet to see the waters rise in 30 years of Chicken Little).
But as a lefty he wants the cancel culture — have the government eliminate speech lefty doesn’t like (no matter the weasel words he puts in the piece).
Americas Pravda has spoken.
What they really mean is they don’t like the push back they are getting from everyday people on social media and in comment sections; the few that still have it.
Polls (not done by leftists) rarely favor leftist thinking as well so they want to stifle free speech or silence us outright.
How very communist of them...
Well, if free speech must be constrained in the name of Civic harmony, let’s censor or shut down the NYT.
I can see why free speech is killing the Gray Lady but America is just fine thank you.
New York Times buddy Joey Stalin killed lots of free speech.
The media are just the mouthpiece(s) for the leftists and they are fully on board with their agenda.
The leftists want to control everything. They are coming for the Bill of Rights - all of it.
I agree with them. Lets shut down the Times.
The New York Times and the legacy media were all for freedom of speech and the press when they controlled 99% of the information flow. Now, they have a little competition from alternative media, and the inner totalitarian comes out.
