A copperhead snake was left dead after getting a taste of claw enforcement from a cat who protected her 81-year-old owner from the unwanted venomous intruder.
The incident took place in Speedwell, Tennessee last week, where Jimmie Nelson lives with Shelly, his adopted shelter cat.
Nelson says he heard a noise in the middle of the night. At the time, he thought it was just Shelly being playful.
Two days later, however, he realized what the commotion was about.

Cat probably killed it outside and brought it in.
May have been eating its rodents, too. Cat may have even caught it with its mouth full.
> Cats are badass and pound-for-pound they are much more lethal than a canine. <
There are quite a few tanks named after a feline. The Panther tank, the Tiger tank, etc. But to my knowledge there are no tanks named after a canine. There is no Poodle tank, for example.
Thanks! Plus it is nice that the gentleman’s daughter also likes Shelly, the kitty. He may very well leave this earth before the kitty, so it will likely be taken care of if that is the case.
Shelly, you paid your dues. Kudos, kitty!
Something was nibbling on my windfall apples, so I set up a game camera. Saw a couple of rats, so I set traps. One morning, I found a rat with a bloody mouth a couple of feet from a sprung trap. I figured it got hit in the head by the bail of the trap. The camera showed that the rat jumped when the trap sprung...it may have been hit in the head, but it flipped and was caught in the trap by a hind leg. From there it escaped, but didn't get far. The whole thing was a blur from the tripping of the trap, when the rat's mouth was on the bait, to the time it was pinned by the leg.
The cat is fast and it avoids any contact by the business end of the snake. A pit bull on the other hand might not try to avoid a hit here or there since they rely on their locked bite to take down or out last an opponent. Style is a key factor in fights.
Those birds live some life.
A kettle of hawks my granny called them.
Cats are far more lethal per pound than a canine. An 80 pound dog is dangerous, but a healthy male adult may be able to out fight it. An 80 pound cat, such as a mid sized mountain lion, is far more deadly, and you would be lucky to come out alive from a fight with one. You have no chance against a cat your own weight.
Another way to think about that is to think about the chances of a single coyote vs a mountain lion. The coyote is lunch for the mountain lion, even if they are roughly the same weight.
I have seen bobcats with dead snakes in their mouths while I was hunting/in the woods.
When I lived on the farm, the cats always were bringing snakes and other things to the front steps.
One of the cats came home with half its head swelled up. Crushed up some benadryl and mixed with cheese. Cat healed up. Never knew if it was a snakebite or something like a wasp sting.
Benadryl.
Hi.
My male feline (Short hair domestic), kills Pigmy rattlesnakes with no problem. He is an outdoor rescue and small alligators don’t mess with him.
He also killed a cotton mouth.
They try to bite him and get close, but he hasn’t had a problem...although he is getting older.
5.56mm
I have 15 consecutive pics of mom and dad teaching 2 of their juries how to hunt They were next door on irrigation property and nailed 3 pigeons
Cave Creek golf course has them too and they fly from tree to tree
Not sure about that map. I see them around Palestine, TX.
I think that in America that the ranges of a raptors have been spreading steadily since we stopped shooting them wholesale. Also, North American fauna and flora is still recovering and spreading north since the last glaciation.
Dumas TX too
The high school is called the Black Hawks
Ever see them totem pole on cactus’
Awesome yet no one knows wby
Ever noticed the difference in which an osprey carries its fish versus an eagle? Its amazing. Eagles are clumsy compared to osprey.
Wow, Dumas is way up there. Stopped for gas a few times on my way to Wyo.
My first rescue kitty healed my heart after a 4 month breakup with my boyfriend (who is now my husband of nearly 30 years). The circumstances of how I found her can only be explained as divine “intervention”. We had her for 15 years and when she died, we were heartbroken. Within a few weeks, we got another kitty and she healed our hearts again together. Just had to say goodbye to her after 16 1/2 years last month. Fortunately, we have another one who is now the recipient of ALL our love. He’s 9 and we’ve had him since he was 10 weeks old. These precious creatures are God’s gifts to us and we are their caretakers.
Tell me about a buzz bomb.
